New Charges For Antlers/Horns As Checked Baggage
From the Hunting Report
(posted April - 2012)

If you plan on flying with US Airways to any future hunts, be aware that their fee for shipping antlers or horns as checked baggage has recently doubled. The airline's new handling fee for antlers/horns is $200. Plus, hunters on multi-species or multi-animal hunts should note US Airways now takes only one rack per passenger. There are also tight restrictions on the size of the racks they will accept. The total linear size (height plus width plus length) cannot exceed 120 inches (305 centimeters). If you fly on their CRJ aircraft, the largest dimension cannot exceed 33 inches (84 centimeters), and the overall dimensions cannot exceed 99 inches (252 centimeters). For flights on the Dash 8 aircraft, the largest dimension cannot exceed 50 inches (127 centimeters). And if you and a friend are thinking about putting a few racks in a cooler or other container, forget it. Racks cannot be combined or cradled together.

What are your alternatives? Well, let's just say that US Airways is not alone in putting extra charges and restrictions on bringing your antlers or horns home with you.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Had that issue last year when we inquiredabout shipping antlers home with us. We just shipped our 4 WT racks home from Texas in a 2x2x2 box with bubble wrap and peanuts with UPS for $88 total.

The other option is to ship your antlers air cargo. I recall doing this in Kotzebue some years ago. It wasn't that expensive.

I also shipped antlers via UPS, but it is expensive.
