These are just two of the deer I have killed over the years with it (From the late 70's I think)

I could take that gun and hunt the NF in Texas during the week and kill what ever was moving. Ducks, squirrels or deer etc.

Valmet system gun in Tanzania and Zim in 12/9,3X74r...took an impala, this Kudu, and some great eating camp meat...francolin...

I enjoyed your GREAT Photos of what a tack-driving Valmet system combo can do! Cool

BTW, it looks like the Savage 2400 series, which was trimmer and lighter than the 412 guns. I had two of these years ago, but traded them to my dentist for root canals and Frowner crowns...

If it is a 2400 Savage, Sako dovetail mounts work on the receiver.

Luv2safari, yes it is a Savage 2400. Bought new by me mid 70's.

What type of Sako rings? A 1.5 x 5 or 1 x 4 Leupold would work very well on this gun now thay my eyes have gone down hill! Even peeps are getting hard to use.

The IM bbl shoots 5 to 6 "0" buckshot into a paper plate @ 40 steps every time. I killed most of my deer with that load as I would hunt the thick stuff. The .308 is very accurate and of course with any 150 to 180 gr soft nose quite deadly.

They use the old traditional Sako dovetail mounts. These are all over the place, and much easier to find than mounts for the Valmet 412/512 type guns.

Thanks, Rudy. He was a very old guy with nice ivory tips.

I have a Savage 2400 too,

Anyway, i have the Sako dovtail rings/mount for mine, and it works pretty good.

The VERY FIRST (pre production) 412 bbl sets used the same rings/mounts, and it has caused a lot of confusion as to the differences between the 2400 and 412's...

Anyway, if you shoot a lot of heavy loads in a 2400, it will loosen up, and that's why Valmet made the 412's a bit heavier in that department...

I have a set of Redfield mounts for Sako Dovetail and 1" Rings. In pristine condition. If you need them.

It has been done. The 338 GABY in based on the 30R Blaser case. You will find it in this German link.
