It seems that you’ve created an entirely new subsection, “Conservation” and within that, the “African Lions Hunting Management And Ecology” forum. First off, that’s a good start. Hopefully, there will be other forums devoted to other species and conservation issues. But if is to be of any real value, it must be more than a separate place for the well-informed, misinformed, uninformed and maladjusted to boisterously exchange their opinions. There must be a data-bank, library or repository where scientific studies, research reports, population surveys, and so on can be uploaded in a standard format (PDF ideally), as well as organized in such a manner that data may be retrieved with relative ease. That’s no easy task, but it would make a major contribution to the preservation and restoration of wildlife in Africa. The Rhino-Resource-Center has a data-bank of over fifteen thousand reports related to Rhino Conservation alone ... and it’s searchable and browsable by subject, country and taxon. Great idea, Thanks Saeed. Maybe in the future it can be expanded to include any conservation issues dealing with other animals that are sport hunted. Lions is a great start. Even the rocks don't last forever. | |||

We start with: Stop shooting young Lion's under the guise of sport hunting. Unless the cub is deemed a "must be destroyed" problem Lion (and I do realize this happens on rare occasions) there should be no excuse for shooting Lion's that are not mature. Six year rule is bullshit as far as the truth is known. Any reputable PH should know a mature, grown adult Lion but I would not place him in prison if his client shot a Lion that was 5.9 years old. Unless you ear tagged that lion as a cub, how do you know he's six years old? Hearsay! Just stop shooting immature Lion's and stick with hunting the grown ones. That would be a start, and a good one. Good decision, Saeed. And thanks to Aaron and Doc Lane for your efforts to address the Lion "problem". As I said back before the turn of the century (over 11 years ago now!) Lion hunting will come to an end and when it does, hunters who haven't been paying attention will scream bloody murder, but it will be too late. Anyone who wants to hunt Lion owes it to everyone else to become educated on what a mature Lion v. a young male looks like. And please, be prepared and willing to say "NO" to a young male Lion, regardless of your investment of time and money and the pressure from your PH. I have, and so I can guarantee that you will be without regret and will have contributed to the continuation of Lion hunting for future generations. My grandson is just 19 months old, but I hope he will be able to take a Lion someday, if he so desires. However, if things don't change, I have no doubt that Lion won't be available to him.
