A friend has a 98 mauser that looks like it was arsenal refinished, their is no crest on top of reciever, but in front of serial numbers their is a "UR" same as on the stock, This is a all numbers matching rifle and has dowel sling swivels fore and aft, any ideas on it's UR markings? On the side rail it says something something vz24? The bore may clean up but this I think this is to nice of a Mauser to break down just to use the action for a sporter project. I could get some pictures in a few days if it'll help. Extreme Custom Gunsmithing LLC, ecg@wheatstate.com

Is there the word "Control" stamped on it anywhere?

mj - I have a similiar firearm, they come with a beautiful crest on top of the receiver & without. They are very well made examples of a Mauser 98 made in Ceskoslovakia in the Brno gunworks. One with all matching numbers is fairly scarce. The vz24 action is one of the more desired ones for custom builds. As far as the prefix goes the only thing I can say is mine has an E. --- John303.

I have a URXXXXX VZ 24. I think the UR code is just the prefix for a rifle manufactured for Romania.
