I would appreciate some recommendations for see through scope rings for a CZ carbine in 7.62 x 39. I love the iron sights and would like the option to use either at any given time. I believe that carbine has a 16mm dovetail integrated on the receiver.

nash, we call those "game saver" scopes bases.. used to be the rage on remie semis, pumps, and some lever guns ... why game saver? becuase the scope is too high for easy use, and the rear ring acts like a ghost ring which makes it more inaccuraTE. opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? I guess, in that case I should forget the see through idea and get a decent quick release ring?

Or just carry a stubby screwdriver

I'll second this motion. My 527 returns to zero or at least within an inch there of every time I've removed and reattached the scope using the factory rings.

My classic image of see thru mounts was one time up behind the house, I ran acrost a young hunter with his thutty-thutty, a 6x24 scope, and see thru mounts. When I asked him about the top end power of his scope, he told me that was to help him with his long shoots. To be serious for a moment, if you are accustomed to using a scope, when the time comes to make a snap shot, you're going to the scope; if you're accustomed to open sights, you're going to go to the open sights. The only reason I can think of for having see thru mounts is if you have a scope on your rifle that isn't really appropriate. That is to say, it is so overpowered that at it's lowest setting, you can't focus on game at normal distances. Aim for the exit hole

thanks for all the input. The scope that i intend to mount is a 1.5-4x32, so it looks like my best bet is a stubby screwdriver

Just mount the scope and forget about it. I've carried a sighted-in spare scope on my trips out of town for years and have yet to need it. I had a 1.5x5 mounted on a .300WM that I drug up and down the mountains for about 15 years without a problem. Aim for the exit hole

I've had about as good luck with scopes as wasbeeman. I don't even sight in my irons and i've never needed my spare scope. (and I don't buy the super high dollar scopes either, middle line Leupolds and Bushnells mostly)
