I recently got hold of an Oberndorf sporter Type A, in 30-06 it has the S/N 118068, there are both British BV BP and BNP and German proofs BUGN proofs on the receiver and barrel. Also interesting is that it is a single square bridge action with no thumb slot cut out. Anoyone who can give me some more information on this rifle. All serial numbers match including on the cross-bolt attached below are some pictures.

Nice rifle! Made in 1937. Sure this isn't a magnum length action? From the location of the crossbolt it looks like it could be. I know, strange on a 30'06 but there were some othe TypeA's in that number range with square bridges and solid walls built up as 404's. I am jealous...

Huvius it is strange that you talk of a 404 as there is a 404 stamped on the underside of the action, the underside of the barrel is marked as 7.62x 63 BNP with the crown over it, other British proofs are the BV and NP proofs. It came from a gun shop in India where there was also another type A in 30-06 which was lighter but modified for a scope mounting so had the bolt bent, this was much lighter than the one I have posted pictures of.
