I have a poll in the leftties section but thought I'd add a link here so that I can get more input. I am having my last LH mauser action turned into a light weight, pattern "B" style mauser. I need to finalize my choice on what caliber to run with. Any input would be helpful. Thanks Caliber poll for mauser custom

A 6.5x57 or a 7x57 would be fine choices. If you need more power or flatshooting cartridges 7mm Vom Hofe or 8x68 would fill the bill. Sorry...you won`t get to say an american caliber...it just don`t belong to a B-mauser pattern rifle customrifle...hahahaha DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Chapters in Sweden & Norway

Dear Iron Buck: I have a 7x57 Ackley on a Brno that lights my fire. You might like it, too. Now, I'm going to make it more difficult for you. I really like the 6.5x57 and 8x57 in original format, also. Sincerely, Chris Bemis

How 'bout a 7x64 Brenneke? Not quite the classic the 7x57 is but what a nice flat shooting round in a "Euro" chambering. Would make a hell of a Sheep and Goat rifle. .270 would be a great choice as well.

while 7mm Mauser would be sweet, I think a lightweight 250/3000 Savage would be even better ---------------------------------------- If you waste your time a talkin' to the people who don't listen To the things that you are sayin' who do you thinks gonna hear And if you should die explainin' how the thing they complain about Or the things they could be changing who do you thinks gonna care Waylon Jennings

Time to make a first post on this forum on something I know a bit about. I built up a VZ33 Mauser action with a lite weight 22" barrel in 7x64 as a mountain rifle. I have to say they go together very well. This combination would get my vote. Steve.

Add a little weight and make it a 8x68S

7x64 would be my choice. 8x68s is a beast and king of the 8mm BUT recoil is STIFF, especially if the rifle is a light mountain rifle. 7x64 Brenneke is ideal, check out my pre-war 7x64 made by Wilhelm Brenneke, maybe that can give you some inspiration. It is light and very well balanced. Cheers, André Always always use enough... GUN & KNIFE

I wrestled with that and the .257 Roberts for a while than thought; being a mountain rifle he may also be thinking Elk some day. Now I've rethought this posting. Ray Atkinson has killed more Elk with a 25-35 than I ever killed period. Krochus you may not be to far off base !! ?? roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! As a younger man I would have thrown in with you almost 100% except for the sling swivel on th barrel. Truly a classic rifle. Taste and age now dictate that the rifle be lighter with a shorter thinner barrel and recoil be kept to a minimum and yet be able to adequately meet it's intended use out to 250 yards. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! 7x57 or 7x64 are good choices. I think for a mountain rifle the 7x64 gets the nod. JefferyDenmark, Please stop posting pictures of that ugly old Brenneke

My two 7mmX57mm each ware 19" Mauser replacement barrels. The diameter steps are .609" for 5.3 ",.649" for 5.2",.758" for 6.25"and .963" over chamber for 1.5" the rest being Threads and shoulder. The lightness of these rifles are further enhanced by forward mounted pistol scopes . Oh! both have home grown Muzzle brakes. Should you have an interst I'll be glad to E-Mail you a cople of fotos. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Andre, WOW! Iron Buck, Either a 6.5x55 or a .270 Win will cover 100% of what you want to do with that rifle. Jason "Chance favors the prepared mind."
