Old Sarge: I agree with the basic premise here. I hunt with a .308 quite a bit. It ain't the fastest, or the sexiest, but it gets the job done. And for "normal" long range hunting shots, it isn't bad. I just don't find the need to take them that often.

Let's see. On boxes of .22LR, it says something to the effect, "Dangerous up to one and one-half mile." Now, if a 48 gr. bullet at roughly, what is it, 1300 FPS or less is dangerous up to half a mile, why wouldn't either a 150 or 170 gr. bullet at 2000 FPS or more not be deadly at 700 yards? Whether anyone can even see a der at that distance, or is even capable of deliberatly aiming and hitting that deer is irrelevant. It will kill a deer at 700 yards,IF you hit it in the right place. That would be damn good luck for the shooter and even worse luck for the deer. Paul B.
