8x50 Lebel...The first short mag! (I think)

Or is it the 8mm kropatschek??? Anyone want to turn their 8mm WSM into an antique smokeless but rimless?

I've heard from an old french friend that the Lebel rifle and especially the carbine (mousqueton) were quite unpleasant to shoot, due to their strong recoil.
