I can't decided which one to buy. which one would you buy and why?

The easiest way to solve that dilema is to buy both!They are both excellent long range rounds.If you only get one it really depends on what you intend to use it for.

I was thinking along the lines of elk, antelope and dall sheep. i just moved out of heaven er i mean alaska and now live in wyoming so most of my hunting will be antelop and elk. i have a 375 hh and a 358 norma.

I'd go with a 7mmSTW or in a hunting weight rifle a 338 RUM. Virtually idententical ballistics as the Lapua.

Although I love the Lapua, based on your needs and the rifles that you already own, I think the STW would be a better fit.

I agree, you already hve heavy hitters in the 375 & 358. The STW will reach out & w/ good 160-175gr bullets is an elk slayer for sure.

STW, will be nicer to shoot in a "portable" rifle.

I own and shoot both extensively and have for some years. I have taken Deer and Elk with the Lapua. I have taken both Mule and Whitetail Deer with the STW. The Lapua would be my choice if I had neither, because it can do so much more. One of my Grandson's took his first Elk with the Lapua when he was 14 and now claims it as his, and of course someday it will be. Good shooting.

Awe come on... it aint that heavy I would gladly tote that around

It weighs as much as my .450 Ackley and .416 combined! I was thoroughly impressed with the accuracy and would not mind in the least to own one.......

7mm Weatherby Magnum of course.

(oh...the Wby wasn't on the option list, go for the STW then).

I own the 338 RUM, And a Rem 7mm mag. I had the 7mm Mag first. Hope that helps.

7STW. You've got the 348 Norma if you want something heavier for the elk. Otherwise 7STW is perfect for your described use.

Also, as another suggested the 338RUM might be a better choice than the Lapua for that.

If I were in you shoes I would be thinking one of the 30 Cal mags instead of the STW. I own a 338 Lapua built on a Rem-700 Action that wieghs 11.6 pounds scope and all and I have a 2 pound scope mounted on it (S&B 5X25). The 338 Lapua with a 300 grain SMK is an Awesome long range rig. The bullet has a BC of .768 and the sheer wieght makes it a real hammer on what ever it hits

I too would go with the .338 Lapua. I have never been a fan of any of the 7mms and would also rather have one of the .30 cal. mags......JMHO.

I would go with the 7mm STW because it would have more application in my hunting battery. I like the 140 gr bullet at 3500+ fps. For larger game I reach for a .375 caliber and up.

Of the two rounds I prefer the Lapua but since you already have 2 heavy hitters it would probably be more versatile for you to have a lighter gun. I would choose a 7 Ultra over the 7 STW if you can find one. Or maybe even go down a little further and get a 270 WSM in a lightweight rifle. A 270 WSM in a lightweight rifle would be perfect Wyoming antelope rifle and would work fine on Elk. Just my 2cents worth..........................DJ

see if you can find a sako 995 in 338 lapua. not heavy at all, and a very straight shooter.
