I am asking because of the distain for the rifle. Why the distain for the 1936 Mas? I've been trying to sell my Matching 1945 L series Mas36 in 7.5x54 (The original caliber) for some time. She is a sweet rifle, although a little odd in some respects, but comes w/ 300 rounds of ammo, 100 pieces of new brass and a set of dies for $300.00.

Great carbine.

Would you give your daughter a rifle with no safety, or add one somehow?

I was given a Mas 36 sporter, and I think I overpaid. I still have it, don't know what to do with it.

My sporter had a sheet metal trigger blocking safety on it. It didn't work all of the time. If you have a better method in mind, i would love to see it.

The best way is to carry it as designed w/o a round in the chamber. You can raise the bolt handle to half-cock, but it is easy to knock it off. You can install a SKS style safety in the trigger guard or a cross-bolt thru the stock behind the trigger. I designed one but haven't tried to fab it yet. It consists of a pin installed into the mainspring guide rod that captures the firing pin utilizing a J-slot cut into the top rear of the FP tube. You can push the thumb button in and rotate it to the left, engaging the slot and pull the FP off the sear. Also locks the bolt.

coffeeI bought one in truely mint condition 12 years ago for $68.00. Spent many enjoyable hours sporterizing it into a Mannlicher style rifle. The mirror finished barrel has done MOA. Will never take it into the field but only because there are too many other better choices. You may get you're asking price,I hope you do, but I doubt it. beerroger

Well my middle son says he wants it. It will make a good starter gun for whitetail. Ballistics are close to a .308, it uses .308 caliber bullets, so I guess it is sticking around. It is a complete matching L series pre armistice 1945 rifle that was not changed to 36/51 specs, counterbored or parkerized. Bore is great and it is an odd little piece of history. I paid $185.00 for the rifle, and was told their was some ammo that went with it. Ended up being 780 rounds. I sold 420 to a few guys that needed ammo and made a decent buck. Pretty much paid for the rifle. I was looking to sell this one to finish another project, but I'm taking a different avenue now.

Here is the project! I received the bases from Austria last week, they are milled on original equipment. It is going to a qualified smith in Pa. at the end of next week. I want it done right. The bottom metal is on because it will be used for hunting. I like the winter trigger guard. All correct! I have the sling, but need the proper front sight hood. I have 2 other rifles that have the correct sight hood, but I'm not cannibalizing.
