Play with me here - I am tired of..... all of the focus on long range shooting when most cannot hit an elk at 250 yards without quivering like a dog on point.... What are you tired of?? Endless discussions of "is the .270 better than a 6.5 creed" or what???

For anyone tired of the 6.5 creed, you should check out Corey Knowleton’s Instagram page. It’s hilarious. He has a special kind of hatred for it. He’s the guy who bought that black rhino tag in Namibia a few years ago. Interesting dude, and a hell of an accomplished hunter.

Regarding the 6.5 Creedmoor hype. A couple of weeks ago a friend from AR and I were hunting down near Cotulla. We had occasion to visit with Roy Hindes who is a Texas legend when it comes to tracking wounded South Texas trophy whitetail deer with hounds. In the course of that conversation Roy told us that in the last couple of years more than a third of the deer he has had to track have been shot with a 6.5 Creedmoor. He was not a fan of the chambering needless to say. Of course his comment is mere anecdotal since it could be that more people are just using 6.5 Creedmoors, people are using the wrong ammo in their Creedmoors, Creedmoor shooters are worst shots, etc. But it made enough of an impression on him that he specifically mentioned it. And Roy has been there and done that when it comes to hunting and tracking trophy deer. Mike

Ill bet you a bunch of it is people buying the hype and thinking 400yards is a chip shot...... .

I'm more of a 270 and even a 243 man when it comes to hunting deer. But saying that, those hunters wounding deer either can't shoot, and/or are using bullets that are too strongly constructed. If a 243 can drop a Texas deer like lightning hit it, a 6.5 Creedmoor should do at least that good. But I'm tired of the 6.5 Creedmoor hype too. Creedmoor logic: optimizing external ballistic performance beyond distances I will shoot at live game, while slightly complicating drop compensations at distances I just might shoot at live game. Nothing against cellphone ballistic programs, anemometers, rangefinders, and very accurate rifles/ammo. Ringing steel at silly distances is fun. Not my thing for live game - nothing against those that play the game responsibly.

I saw a guy the other day recommending a 6.5 as a 600, yes 600, yard elk rifle. He has all the applied ballistics charts to prove it was superior.

I'm tired of all the Creedmoor hype and the hate. Good hell lovers. It's just a decent cartridge/twist, throat, etc and nothing more. Good hell haters. Who the phuq cares? Quit kicking against the pricks and continue shooting your "06. No one cares! As for long range: Quit bitching either way and start using your head and apply what works for YOU and don't dictate to other what they can or can't do just because you can't. I'm most tired of all the "I'm tired of...." BS. Have a nice day, Zeke

Well put. I'm in the no one cares camp, and I do have a rifle so chambered. It's just another rifle that shoots pretty well.

MJines, Your post reminded me of a similar report on Hill Country archery hunters. I had driven my daughter to deliver a Corgi to a ranch family in the hill country west of Austin. Driving east from the south bound highway up into the hills, we saw wild turkey, deer, small streams, game birds, and great critter cover. The rancher was quite friendly and we had a nice visit before heading back to Dallas. When discussing the lovely hunting terrain, he admitted that he had several hunters there each season, but had just recently stopped allowing any archery hunters on his property. Sensing a lead in to a good story, I asked why? Too many lost dead deer and unrecovered wounded deer was the answer. When he elaborated, we learned that many archery hunters were killing more than their allotted number, because after losing a wounded deer, they went on hunting and harvested another deer and did not report the lost deer to him. He often discovered dead carcasses, antlers, and bones in the following months. He reported that with no archery hunters, most gun hunters limited out, but there was still plenty of game at seasons end. When I told this story to an accomplished archery and gun hunter friend, he just snorted "amateurs"! As a kid, I tried BB guns and bow and arrows, chose the gun and never looked back! Roy knows what he's talking about. He and his dogs track down a lot of nice bucks every year. There's a big difference between a small bodies Hill Country buck and a heavy, mature S. The 6.5 Creedmoor is the new "less is more" fad. The reborn 280 AI is the same, it's now as fast as the 7mm Remington and soon will be as fast as a 7mm/378.

And really soft, thin jacket, high BC bullets. I am tried of trying to push back against the 6.5 Creedmore hype. I am really tired (and still pushing against) of thin jacket (really soft) high bc, bullets being used for hunting.

I’m tired of people who shoot game animals at 600 yards or so, and call themselves hunters. A hunter stalks his pray and gets as close as possible before shooting. To shoot game animals at extreme ranges isn’t hunting, it’s shooting.

I'm not tired of the Creedmoor. I am tired of the Firearms Industry exploiting the general shooter and hunter population. By nature, the American Hunter is lazy and easily manipulated into believing that technology can replace basic hunting and marksmanship skills. This is not new. Weatherby was the pioneer of this marketing strategy. Remington tried to exploit that mentality with the RUM's and more recently, the Nosler family has stepped into the arena. We had the Dakota family and the other proprietary cartridges that were never to be found in a local hardware store or even in a Cabela's or Sportmans Wharehouse. Mega-magnification FFP scopes and 15 pound rifles wearing bipods are not field portable hunting rigs. Doesn't anybody know how take a field position with hunting rifle and a simple hasty sling? Ahhh, I'm just an old Curmudgeon that thinks hunting is done on foot with a rifle carried in hand.

Fun topic but I will flip it just for a second. I am thankful for the Creedmoor. I am thankful for the long range fad. In a world where we are losing hunters and shooters every year that are not being replaced I am hopeful that innovation and maybe even reinventing the wheel a little bit will draw in new hunters and shooters. I like new cartridges. I like reading about them. When I started shooting, 300 yards was a really long shot. I knew it was because my Dad told me it was. If he were still alive I am not sure he would believe the distances I can shoot now. And its fun to shoot that far. Yes, for some reason I have always liked to knock the latest fad but truth is I am glad that companies are still innovating and giving me something new to read about or try. But I am really tired of masks, covid, and politicians.

I'm with the Biebster on this. It seems like there has been way too much to be sick and tired of in 2020. I don't hate the Creedmoor; just can't figure out how it got so popular when we have had the wonderful 6.5X55 Swede for 126 years. I am weary of waking in a world of intolerant weak minded people whom worship “tolerance” and being “woke.” But oh so glad to be alive, free and saved from my own wrongful acts my fallen nature leads me to. The rifle in the hand while walking on the land is such a blessing that I care not about which one I have with me today. "The liberty enjoyed by the people of these states of worshiping Almighty God agreeably to their conscience, is not only among the choicest of their blessings, but also of their rights." ~George Washington - 1789

When I got too old/infirm to hunt my shooting friends asked if I missed it. I missed walking in the woods with a rifle in my hands. Lots of good points in this thread. What ever happened to ethical hunting? 600 yards my ass! I would not shoot at any animal unless I could keep all my shots in a pie plate at that shooting distance. That means that as I aged, offhand at 100 yards became iffy. NRA Benefactor Member US Navy Veteran

I note all the vitriol aimed at the 6.5 CM is from those who do so do not understand marketing under a Capitalistic economic system, nor do they understand the mindset and motivations of the average consumer. (In this case, hunter and shooter) Econ 101; businesses exist for only one reason; to make money for the owner or shareholders. NO other reason. They must have new products to generate new customers; old guys do not buy new stuff; they want the stuff they couldn't have when they were teen agers. That is a rule. Why do car makers change the look of their vehicles every year? Read above. None of that applies in any way to any AR member, as they are all immune to anything new or anything invented in the last 50 years. But it is simple; the 6.5 Creedmoor is new. New things sell because people think they are better. And while many think it is not better than one invented in 1894, it is certainly not worse. (It's better in a few ways but not to digress.) So, stay bitter and avoid it whenever possible. No loss to the guys who like it and there are many; I build a steady stream of them. And I actually own two myself. It's better than a Swede. Live with it. Oh, what am I tired of? If I said what it was, I would get even more hate mail from AR members, so, I won't step into that trap. Nice try.

I’m tired of ANY cartridge/caliber vs cartridge/caliber bashing. I’m simply disgusted with the whole mindset and marketing of buying skill! Scentlock clothes, fashion camo, rifles marketed as “long range”, apps that tell you what to dial to make a long range hit, the list can go on and on. I’m beyond disgusted and crossed over to downright furious about folks who call themselves sportsmen and publicly bash other sportsmen for things they do legally, but don’t agree with personally. This is how a community is destroyed from within. I can also gripe about what elected officials do. Not simply because I vote, because I’ve spent a great deal of time over the last 36 years corresponding with and visiting in person with politicians and bureaucrats regarding/representing sportsman’s rights issues. I have an acquaintance who has a pretty vast knowledge base that browsed a couple web forums in the early days and quickly decided to stay away due to the amount of “Experts, morons and dullards spewing pure crap”. I can’t argue against his position. All We Know Is All We Are

I take most of the posts on the internet with a grain of salt, some good, some bad, but most is good conversation and gives me something to do in my golden years. I grew tired of TV with hunters in blinds with a feeder 50 or 75 yards out in front, and their 300 Ultra mag, 8x24 scope on 24, decked out in camo from head to toe and them waiting for the perfect broad side shot..Mom says, why are you yelling "shoot the son of a bitch". then I got into trouble when my grand son, was about 10 yelled shoot the son of a bitch, in front of her and his mom!!oh well..It is what it is!! +3 Matt FISH!! Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984: "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered.
