Ah Hem there Danny....the caliber is too big and the number of rounds too large.....by four.

If you used a .30-06 you only need one round.

Probably insane looking for bullets...

Maybe
5.56mm
6.5mm
7mm
9.3mm

At least those are common, but then again, the modern form of self expression is uncommon in and of itself

  • .223, hate the design but must respect it's non military performance.
  • 6mm (.244) will handle the largest percentage of game in the lower 48 plus with the right twist and throat.
  • .6.5x55 Adequate up to mule deer plus and low recoil.
  • 7x57 best all around.
  • .358 x .404 IMP just because I made one.

Yep, when I unload. The term suppositories comes from my muzzleloader days. Breechloaders are "suppository guns". A wildcat chambering in a breechloader would then require one to "stick suppositories inta a wildcat's behind. moon

This is easy for me, as my rifle battery is 5 rifles - I believe in simplicity and don't like the complications involved with "too many choices". My sporting rifles are all Ruger M77's...

    .22 rimfire M77/22 (stainless/synth - iron sights)

    .243 Win M77 (old tang-safety model - iron sights)

30-06 M77/MkII (definitely my "go to" rifle: stainless/synth compact 4x Burris)

.375 H&H RSM (factory express sights or Leup VXIII 1.5x5 depending on circumstances)

.458 Win Mag M77 (tang-safety/iron sights - fits me like a good bird gun)

I generally go by the "one gun, one load" rule and generally it's heavy-for-caliber bullets. Each rifle has it's purpose and a load is selected to accomplish this. They're all fun, especially the big ones, but they're all dialed-in and ready for service.

The .22 rimfire and the .243 are my pest rifles for around my little ranch (I have two homes, both in rural areas).

The '06 and .375 are the ones I use the most.

The .458 is just plain fun and will go with me some day "over there".

**** I'm currently looking into adding an RSM in .416 Rigby, so the .458 may fall to the wayside if I end up liking the Rigby and the package performs well. I love the .458 M77 and that tang-safety is super fast to get into action, but the Rigby will easily do the same chores and I don't need two rifles of so similar performance. Plus I'd then have two identical RSM's that operate precisely the same - something I prescribe to strongly so that no matter which rifle is in your hands you don't even have to think about it's operation, it's all "second nature".

    .22 LR Ruger M77/22
    30-06 Ruger M77/MkII
