Is there anyone who knows anything about this rifle? good or bad?

Sounds like a misnomer to me. It should be a Ruger Model 77, 30-06. There is no Mauser that I know of with a model number of 77.

The Mauser 77 never really caught the market's fancy (neither did its sportive offspring, the 83 and 86). IMHO, it looks a bit too beefy to be elegant.

If you can acquire one cheaply, you get a decent and reliable hunting rifle, though nothing glamourous.

An extensive report and review on the rifle (several detailed pages, rather technical) was published in the DWJ in 1981, written by G�nter Fr�res. If you can read German, I would be glad to fax it to you.
