HAs anyone used these on Deer? I have a 24" 1 in 12 twist krieger barrel. I was thinking I owuld get around 3100 FPS with these. We all know TSX's like velocity to open up. I could use the 150's but whitetail dont even need a 150. Please post your comments on this

i am sure it would work fine but it seemjks a little expensive for your purpose. Any good 308 150 or 165 grain bullet should work great on a white tail...tj3006

I have played with these in my Styer 308. The 19" barrel had trouble reaching 3000 at reasonable pressure levels but they seem a good accurate bullet. I don't ride the pressure curve when reloading and stop when base expansion is in the factory + range. Many reloaders go further than I would.

The Steyer 308 has become my main caribou rifle and I admit to only using 150 grain partitions on game so far. I have taken 11 caribou in the past two years with this combination at about 2775ft/sec with awesome results from 100-300 yards.

I might experiment with 150 Hornady Interbonds this year. I like explosive expansion with penetration and the X bullets have always seemed a bit short on expansion to me.

Why don't you try 130gr GS Custom HV's in your .308?

Totally reliable, controlled expansion and you can take them up to 3200fps.

Follow the next few links for more detail on these premium bullets:

Tough test
GS Custom web site.

Added in edit:
As you say below, they are expensive, BUT once you've hunted with GSCHV's and seen all the results and benefits of using them, you will realise what you have missed in all your years of hunting!
These bullets are really as close as possible to perfection.

why?
They cost 3x as much for the same number os bullets. Barnes TSX- 25$, GS HV- 75$...
they are not 3x better than a barnes triple shock and I know barnes triple shocks can be driven fast, thats when they perform best
thanks for the info though

I took my little Mule deer with a 100 grain tripple shock from a .257 roberts, and it did a superb job. If I take my .308 or my 30,06 after a mule deer in 2006. I would opt for a mose conventional bullet, I used the tripple shock for 2 reasons, My little featherweight shoots them extreamly accuratly, and i wanted the premium performance with the little roberts as the smallest round I had taken a buck with till then was a .280 rem. But a good Speer sierra or Hornady bullet will expand at 27 or 2800 fps might expand to much at 3000. But wilth a .257 and up bullet deer are not hard to kill at all, in my experence...tj3006

I tried to develop a good load with it for my Remington 660, as I wanted a little more velocity than a 150 gr bullet from the 20-inch barrel. I wasn't able to get it to group as well as I wanted, and I ran out of time before my hunt. I fell back on my tried and true .30-06 with 150 gr Ballistic Tips over 52 gr of IMR-4064.
