Tough question, but I really think a person could git er done with four rifles.

#1. .22 long rifle
#2. Pick your favorite quarter bore. My favorites are the .250 Savage and .257 Bob, but I could live with any of the others except maybe the .257 Weatherby.
#3. .30-06...just as Townsend Whelen said, it's never the wrong choice.
#4. .35 Whelen or .358 Win. I will probably never be able to afford Africa; so I don't need anything larger in my battery. I have used both in the field pretty extensively and can't see a huge difference in the performance on game. Right now I'm using a light .358, but I have loved the Whelens I've used too.

I like cartridge and caliber discusions. I used to speed read hunting stories to see what cartridge they used. Today these forums are more sophisticated than many of the old magazines were as bullets and shot location are a primary topic.

As to what caliber or rifles I use I just want to do what I want to do. So I use various ones but stay on the powerful side most of the time at least.

I enjoy working on extra guns and getting them going good and if I can't I get rid of them.

When I think what I want to do tommorrow in the shooting sports it might be a match, hunting or going to the range. I can do what I want. I usually go to the range.

As to how many guns it's good that there is a back up gun around that you or your buddy can walk back and get.

On calibers there is overlap so many of us use personal cartridges and then tell others thats what to use or that you have too many guns.

To each his own.

PS: I just bought a 308. I already had a 308. I am happy.

Sounds like you get a whole lot of fun from cleaning rifles also!

7mmX57 scout or 8mmX57 scout, short barrels, light stocks with recoil compensators. WinkThat covers the need part. The I have part are mostly toys. thumbroger

I can think of two right off. The 338 RUM and the 300 RUM. Hope that helps.
