After shooting several 1" groups with my M70 300 Win Mag, equipped with a Leupold Vari XII 3 X 9, the Shots started "walking" up the target. After 6 shots, the target was missed. Horizontal alignment did not change.

I checked the scope mounts, all seemed to be OK.

Usually when a scope goes bad, the groups open and the POI shifts. But, what you descibe could be a lost spring. I'd put another scope on the gun and check. Before doing that, I'd check the rest of the gun, like the action screws. E
