Since when does a man need an excuse to buy another gun? Women buy their stuff is mass quantity. Justification? It made sense to them. Well, we don't buy all that junk, so we spend the same money on a few firearms that we'll have longer, that won't go out of style, and won't make your butt look big.
OK I admit it. I'm a certified gun nut. I started thinking about all the stupid rationalizations I've used for buying this gun or that and started wondering what was my worst excuse.
So far I'm thinking that the one that's my worst is that for some reason I thought that I was down to my last few rounds of 300 Weatherby brass and found a "great" deal on another 250 cases. Well while rummaging through the junk yard also known as my garage I found that I was already well endowed with brass in Roy's most popular round. With all that brass I certainly needed more than 1 gun to shoot it in didn't I?
Ok so admit it, you other gun nuts have done it too. Lets hear about some of your lame and or funny excuses and I promise that wives won't be allowed to read our posts on this thread.........DJ

I once rationalized that my wife wanted a slick little 243 for valentine's day. Even after shortening the stock to fit her, she didn't believe it was her. Now 20 years later, she at least acknowledges that it was a stupid but well intended valentines present.

The WORST excuse for buying a gun is to get a model that's been banned here in Maryland by one of the bans introduced here in each of the last several years (fired shell casing law, internal safety lock law, etc).
The BEST excuses are ones like when I buy a big handgun for grizzly defense while fly-fishing, despite the fact I don't fly fish, or travel in grizzly country...

Well, even when I was single I had excuses, that way when other people asked (friends and family) why I never had money I could give a reason. I have used, and meant at times:
"I paid less for the whole gun than the stock is worth" (that one was true)
"they didn't charge me for rechambering"
"I got a better price by buying all three"
"this is a great action for building another gun off of later" (ended up liking the little 270 so much it stayed the way it was)
"it was a package deal with the scope"
Now I am almost married, and since I am irresponsible with money (who needs to save when they have lots of guns?) I run the big things by "the boss". Last rifle was negotiation,"well, it is a great deal, and if I get it I can sell another to pay for it."

How do you do it? I'm in the middle of getting divorced, and between what it's costing me, and what I'll be left with after the property settlement and child support, I'll be lucky to be able to buy a box of 22's, let alone need an excuse to buy a rifle!!

I cannot walk away from a pile of brass laying on the ground at the shooting range. I've picked up some 3 or 4 thousand 38 Spec cases. I don't own a 38, for the most part I don't like 38s. But I've got these buckets of 38 cases that need a gun. Jim

I have five best excuses for a new rifle and have used all of them, grandsons. With another grandchild on the way, my wife said, O.K. Granddad, what if it is a girl this time. My only response could be, do you really think I could discriminate, just because it is a girl. Of course not, the young lady would need a rifle, just in case she wanted to shoot with the guys. Now that .270 WSM is on order. Good shooting.

No excuse needed. My gun cabinet has a lock. The reloading room it is in has a lock. No one else is allowed in that room. My wife hasn't a clue what I own, and I have no intention of telling her. The lock is a wonderful thing. Best wishes.
Being a certified Red Neck I offer no excuse.I pay for her comfort all of it.If I want to reward my labor, with byeing a gun I will.If she does not appreciate the comfort I afford her, well she can find another man.But my new gun will be in the safe.

The best way to keep you wife from buying french shoes (or anything french) is to spend all of the money on guns and ammo. Takes a special wife though.........DJ
