Ruger,
Note that the divorce was final 30 years ago

and
my son quit getting child support over 10 years ago.
It took many years for the financial situation to clear
up. Maybe thats why I never got re-married.

P.S. Good luck!

Tex21Gentlemen, gentlemen,
You're looking at this the wrong way...
Since when does a man need an excuse to buy another gun? Women buy their stuff is mass quantity. Justification? It made sense to them. Well, we don't buy all that junk, so we spend the same money on a few firearms that we'll have longer, that won't go out of style, and won't make your butt look big.

Just my $.02 though

I here you... I still think a pregnant woman is pure evil.
I dont need to make a excuse to anyone for buying a new rifle or bird gun.

DungbeetleI was drunk.

djpaintlesOK I admit it. I'm a certified gun nut. I started thinking about all the stupid rationalizations I've used for buying this gun or that and started wondering what was my worst excuse.
So far I'm thinking that the one that's my worst is that for some reason I thought that I was down to my last few rounds of 300 Weatherby brass and found a "great" deal on another 250 cases. Well while rummaging through the junk yard also known as my garage I found that I was already well endowed with brass in Roy's most popular round. With all that brass I certainly needed more than 1 gun to shoot it in didn't I?
Ok so admit it, you other gun nuts have done it too. Lets hear about some of your lame and or funny excuses and I promise that wives won't be allowed to read our posts on this thread.........DJ

JohnTI think the worst possible excuse is that you really need one. Man what a terrible world it would be if it came to that!
As long as we can keep inventing excuses this world is OK IMHO.
i have two,
i found a bunch of 357 max cases laying at the range and picked them up. now i needed a gun so i could use the brass.
i found a new set of 6.5x57 dies at a gun shoe for $2. well i had to put them to use also.

Oldgunslol.......that I have a space in the gun cabinet that "needs" filling
15 March 2004, 08:04
Savage99It does not take much that's for sure! The worst thing I do is to buy some gun when I have better ones in the back row.
15 March 2004, 08:41
4bambamI always wanted one like that, and look at the price. It will be more next year and I promise I will not get another gun

15 March 2004, 09:47
elkaddictI once rationalized that my wife wanted a slick little 243 for valentine's day. Even after shortening the stock to fit her, she didn't believe it was her. Now 20 years later, she at least acknowledges that it was a stupid but well intended valentines present.
15 March 2004, 09:47
hivelosityPICKED UP A SET OF .243 ai DIES guess i will have to build a gun.
any body gor an action
The WORST excuse for buying a gun is to get a model that's been banned here in Maryland by one of the bans introduced here in each of the last several years (fired shell casing law, internal safety lock law, etc).
The BEST excuses are ones like when I buy a big handgun for grizzly defense while fly-fishing, despite the fact I don't fly fish, or travel in grizzly country...

BobbyThe same one women use for buying shoes, "I didn't have one in that color", stainless looks so good with my hunting jacket and boots.
16 March 2004, 03:06
Dago RedWell, even when I was single I had excuses, that way when other people asked (friends and family) why I never had money I could give a reason. I have used, and meant at times:
"I paid less for the whole gun than the stock is worth" (that one was true)
"they didn't charge me for rechambering"
"I got a better price by buying all three"
"this is a great action for building another gun off of later" (ended up liking the little 270 so much it stayed the way it was)
"it was a package deal with the scope"
Now I am almost married, and since I am irresponsible with money (who needs to save when they have lots of guns?) I run the big things by "the boss". Last rifle was negotiation,"well, it is a great deal, and if I get it I can sell another to pay for it."
It's the last one and I won't be able to get another like it

510wellsGentleman,
I really hate to do this to you guys, but...
My divorce was final in 1974 and I haven't re-married.
So I don't need any excuses, It's MY money and if
I want another gun I just go out and buy it.
Not that I really have a NEED most of the guns I own, but then that's a whole other story.

LAWCOPHAD A friend give me a box of .340Wby ammo 15 years ago.
needed a gun to shoot it.
16 March 2004, 02:07
rugeruserRoi,
How do you do it? I'm in the middle of getting divorced, and between what it's costing me, and what I'll be left with after the property settlement and child support, I'll be lucky to be able to buy a box of 22's, let alone need an excuse to buy a rifle!!

16 March 2004, 02:33
arkypeteI cannot walk away from a pile of brass laying on the ground at the shooting range.
I've picked up some 3 or 4 thousand 38 Spec cases. I don't own a 38, for the most part I don't like 38s. But I've got these buckets of 38 cases that need a gun.

hikerbumBest excuse.
Just Because!!!!
I have used the raffle one myself.
16 March 2004, 03:20
phurleyI have five best excuses for a new rifle and have used all of them, grandsons. With another grandchild on the way, my wife said, O.K. Granddad, what if it is a girl this time. My only response could be, do you really think I could discriminate, just because it is a girl. Of course not, the young lady would need a rifle, just in case she wanted to shoot with the guys. Now that .270 WSM is on order.

Good shooting.

Cal SibleyNo excuse needed. My gun cabinet has a lock. The reloading room it is in has a lock. No one else is allowed in that room. My wife hasn't a clue what I own, and I have no intention of telling her. The lock is a wonderful thing. Best wishes.

<Hook67>There's no such thing as a 'bad' excuse!
And, as an old buddy put it, "my definition for 'need' is...anything that I have wanted for more than two weeks"!

Red Neck64Being a certified Red Neck I offer no excuse.I pay for her comfort all of it.If I want to reward my labor, with byeing a gun I will.If she does not appreciate the comfort I afford her, well she can find another man.But my new gun will be in the safe.

Cant help thinking that the wives are on some fachion forums discussing exuses for buying some (put french name) shoes!

djpaintlesThe best way to keep you wife from buying french shoes (or anything french) is to spend all of the money on guns and ammo. Takes a special wife though.........DJ
