Has anyone tried Hornady ammo or brass? Are the listed velocities accurate? How's the brass compare to Wby or Remington as far as quality and capacity? Thanks, Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

The listed velocities will depend on your setup and how much it matches the test rifles Hornady uses. I find the Light Magnum stuff quite accurate as far as velocity. I think the brass is better than most, but then again the only Hornady brass I use is 308 match and then because I can pick it up for free at the LE range. The regular brass is too expensive for my taste. If you find any Hornady Frontier brass, it was made by Winchester, but I haven't seen any for a while. Their listed velocities are accurate in my experience. A friend of mine who loads thousands of rounds a year (for himself and others) really likes their brass. He says it's better then Remington brass. I don't know about Weatherby brass.

Hornady brass and bullets and ammo are superb stuff. I wish I could say the same for their dies!

The reason I ask is that I can find Hornady 300 WBY 180 for about $35. I usually pay $30 plus just for WBY brass. I'll have to try a few boxes. Thanks, Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Dr Lou...I've tried a couple boxes of hornady wby brass. I like everything about it except that it seems to expand the pockets too easily. I emailed them and they denied any troubles and said I was loading too hot. I can easily do 3250 fps out of my mark v with rem or wby brass but this speed will expand the pockets on my hornady. Maybe I got a soft batch? I had 2 wby's and sold one off and the remaining gun for some reason likes the hornady brass. I do one range session with the brass and then load for the hunt on the 2nd loading. Concentricity and wall thickness seem really good. One last note is that it has less case capacity than wby brass so you may have to download a bit. Let us know what you think after getting it.
