Naki,
you have to load the 9.3x62 to 2500 FPS to be legal in Zimbabwe btw...and many do but Doctari says nobody cares or checks and it does fine on buffalo with most factory ammo..I agree with that and so does Van der Walt..I have used the 9.3x62 in most African contries including Tanzania many times and I now know of one person that was challenged and that was heresay it seems and a 100 or more that used it...The 9.3x74, 9.3x64 and 9.3x62 have killed a ton of Tanzanias buffalo without question, and the game scout is not a good witness in that Ive never seen one that could read a cartridge head or even tried to in some 40 years, or one that could not be bribed with an offer of some tea for his wife or mother. Real world experiences..I do know some PHs that will requie a .375 just for because, or so they tell me.

As to comparison, I and many Africans prefer to shoot the 375 H&H at 2400 to 2500, that's a matter of well known fact and its in print, and yes I know the 375 can be loaded to perhaps 2650 FPS with a 300 gr. bullet and near 2300 with a 350 gr. bullet. I shoot both...I also know its no great trick to load a 9.3x62 with a 26 inch barrel, and in some cases a 24 inch barrel to 2400 to 2500 FPS with 286 or 300 gr. bullets. As Pierre van der Walt says the Americans have never learned how to load the 9.3x62, and tend to quote weak factory loadings, or something on that order..He has a whole chapter on its use in African Dangerous Game cartridgesf as does Doctari, two of the best books Ive ever read...That's my story and Im sticking to it! beer

Ray,

As you know, a lot of the local crowd in TZ use a 30-06, not the 9.3x62, for buffalo.

The 30-06 will kill a buffalo, too.

Until it doesn't.

. . .

Use the largest caliber that you can shoot accurately, like it was just another round.
