let me hear the pro's and con's on this rifle. i just acquired one and had it to the range for the first time. it is a savage model 116 with a factory muzzle brake, ss, syn. stock and i had excellent results with 180 grain factory nosler rounds. settled in to 3/4 inch at 100 yds. and i consider that good for a production gun. easy on the shoulder, i thought. let me have your comments. two canoes

I prefer 200gr bullets in my 300 ULTRA leaving the 180's for other 30cal mags. I shot my last elk with my Sako 300 Ultra at pretty long range, it worked great. I hope you enjoy yours!.............DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

I got one and just need a scope.Got three loads ready for try. This will be my long range caribou rifle.I hope everything goes smooth during load development and I find a really accurate load fast.Being an overbore round,it's not going to allow much testing before erosion sets in and long range accuracy says goodbye.I got mine in 700BD and she's a beauty. She just lays in her box and shines away.

I like mine. It's accurate, and it's consistent. It's a PSS model. It's kind of heavy for hunting, but I've taken it out a fair amount because I trust it. Mine's not braked, and I notice the recoil from the bench. It's really fast recoil, so I like it less than the .375, .416, or .470. Not unbearable, but not a lot of fun to work up loads at the bench with, either. It shoots 180 grain bullets awfully flat. I've shot 200 grainers through it, too, but I've mostly hunted with the 180's. I did have a problem with a 180 grain Partition coming apart on a couple of very short shots. The animals died immediately, but the damage to the meat and skins was pretty bad. Steve

I have two customised M700's in 300 RUM One has a varmint contour barrel wih Ops Inc brake and a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X56 scope in Badger rings and with Jewell trigger. It loves Nosler 168 Custom Competition bullets and I use it for longe range kangaroo shooting. The other has a #5 contour barrel on it and it shoots the 200 NorthFork soft very well. I'll take this rifle to Namibia on my next trip. A friend had a 300 RUM in Namibia this year, shooting the 180TSX and it was a real killer, though it would have been better with the 200 grain bullet.

Uhhh, yeah, right shchittaway. Leave "her" in the box and save the 'erosion' issue. Sell it later as a 'Classic', untouched and virgin. Let's see here; never shot it but it's going to hell in a box as we speak for the trials to come. Right? Define for us all - what is "Overbore"? Spell it out. How many guns do you have and how many rounds, with each, do you shoot each year? Lastly, how old are you? Dungbeetle

I am working on three rifles at the moment.I want to find an accurate load for all and put them aside asap.I am taking too much time off work.I then want to practice real shooting with my 308 palma rifle. It's this rifle that I shoot with. The others are for hunting and admireing. Before i rebarelled my 308 i shot 5000 rds in a single year.I don't think i will be doing that again as the reloading takes up too much time.I will try to get out as often as possible before the summer and will be practicing my hold and dry fireing/loading indoors.I just bedded my bdl an hour ago.How about you Dung, you shooting much?

Love my .300 RUM I use the Nos AB 200 gr bullets it's my BIG varmint rifle for shooting in Out Back NSW where the ranges are longer and you can get a bit of wind. I use a Rem 700 PSS with MK4 leupold 6.5-20x50 in badger rings and base, gun has a canjar trigger.................worst thing about it is it's a filthy push feed

I shoot the 300 RUM with these bullets 180gr,200gr, and 220gr. The 180s go 3260 FPS, the 200s go 3020 FPS and the 220s go 2865 FPS. Could go more FPS but not needed right now.

I shoot a S/S Model 700 with a weaver 4.5x14 or whatever the power is. I think I have mostly shot reloader 22 and 25. No problem to get an inch at 200 yards with Ballistic tips. Rifle is bare bone stock except for the trigger lightened a little and I put an R3 pad so dad would quit complaining about it. "Science only goes so far then God takes over."

I shoot a REM 700 LSS. No complaints from me except price of ammo! Scope is a Nikon Titanium in 5.5-16.5? All works well and bagged several deer this last season.

I have a Remington 700 in .300 RUM. I've taken 12 animals with it so far, 11 one shot kills including elk, mule deer, black bear and whitetails. Longest run was 40 yards with lung shot deer and most fell in tracks. Loudest rifle I have ever shot. Absolutely lethal. Would not advise using Swift Sciroccos on South Carolina whitetail unless you like softball sized exit holes. Sighted dead on at about 220 and no hold over out to 300 which is my maximum range. I have total confidence in this rifle. Stock trigger sucked and I replaced with a Jewell. I'm a one rifle guy and this rifle is good for anything in North America. Have been shooting 180grn Noslers and Sciroccos but am going to try 200grn TBBC and A-Frames. ______________________ I don't shoot elk at 600 yards for the same reasons I don't shoot ducks on the water, or turkeys from their roosts. If this confuses you then you're not welcome in my hunting camp.

I've got a 700 SPS. I love the cartridge, like others have said it's pretty flat shooting. I've been shooting 180g. bullets with good results. Accuracy seems to be good for a factory rifle and ammunition. Some complaints I have are... It's hard to keep on target after your initial shot. The price of ammo Depending on the bullet, and distance you get explosive results

I have 2, one the Sako 75 S/S has about 600 rounds thru it and my gunsmith used his bore scope, as I was considering a new barrel. He said that he could not see a hint of erosion. The other is a 700 pss and is under construction, new trigger, Mc Millan stock and lining everything up(1 lug touching, bolt face not square etc) I have shot 185 and 200 TSX, 200 AB and Scirrocos The TSX are unbelivable as are the AB's I gave The sciroccos away. did not shoot at all in my gun (junk) Charlie

I've got a Sendero in 300 RUM. Haven't worked up a great load in it yet. I've got runout issues with my cartridges. . Reading the Instructions - a sure sign of weakness and uncertainty.
