Well, I was off to a hog hunt and needed to load up 40 brand spanking new WW cases marked .338 Win for my new Ruger Hawkeye African..

Was in a hurry, so I didn't run them thourgh the die to round out the necks. Just primed them and filled them with powder. Ola, I can't seat the bullets, what the hell?

On close inspection, I find the hole in the cases mics .310, they are basically 30-338 Win Cases marked 338.

So I emptied the powder out of the 40, took out the pin and ran them back through the die and expanded the necks to .338 and loaded them up.

I have another 60 of these to send back to WW I suppose..

This is a first in 60 plus years of reloading, and I have not heard of this before. Has anyone else experienced this.

Heck, the cases are probably worth more as collectors items than having them replaced, who knows.

Not much surprises me anymore - the last batch of WW brass I bought (in .375 H&H) looked like the necks had been chewed off by a beaver. A bag of RP brass in .338 WM had three rounds with split necks, and 3 or 4 more with creased necks. Quality control has gone all to hell nowadays. People no longer seem to take any pride in what they create.

i always resize new brass ... have forever. its a basic thing.

I alwys run them through the die, but I wanted to shoot my new Hawkeye African and was in a hurry so I loaded up 40 and caught the error..So I ran them through the die and I have .338 new factory ammo, but I didn't get a pay check for manufacturing their brass!

I have the only brand new 30-338 ammo ever manufactured by Win. but its marked 338 Win. got to be worth $5.00 a round at a gun show, maybe $10. whatta ya think?

Ray, I don't know how old you are but at 54 years of age myself, I can see that the term "Providing a Service", no longer applies to many companies and businesses.

Of late, I have been making the comment that at my age, I now have to get used to Mediocrity and Incompetence, being Rewarded!
As a younger person and still today, around me "Mediocrity Isn't An Option"!!!

I suppose this is what they didn't tell us about, when the push for Globalisation was just starting???

I had this happen to me with a box of W-W .264 magnum cases one time. The necks were so small that I was shaving jacket material from the bullets when I tried to seat them. I did the same thing that you did and ever since it has been my policy to run new brass through my sizer die, inside/outside chamfer, de-burr the flash holes, and mill the primer pockets. I realize all of those steps may not be necessary but that's my process and I'm sticking to it.

I always run new brass through a sizer but I need 40 quick rounds to go shoot and wouldn't you know it..

I contacted Win. two weeks ago and they said they would forward this to the proper folks, have not heard a word..I think I'll keep about 5 of them and go ahead and run them through the 338 die like the rest and Win can go jump their dog....My new favorite brass is RWS, Lapua, and I really like Graff as its not expensive at all. I think Federal makes Graff but wouldn't swear to it.
