flip a coin or follow your instinct You can't go wrong, beautiful brunette or blonde? I have owned many 700's over many year's. Never had a problem with any, until recently. The extractor wouldn't snap over the rim like is was supposed to. A little polishing and works slicker than heck. Now if you want to start talking about CRF problems. I have had some problems with those types of actions. Here is my take. PF are the trucks of the rifle world. They do yeoman work, and yes they occasionally break down. CRF's are the Porsches, but they have to be right. When they are right, they are beautiful. When they are off, they are miserable. There is absolutely nothing worse than a CRF rifle that won't function/feed correctly.

Since you don't have an '06, ya better git one. ______________________ Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Sheeeshhh!!! Get that .30-06. There's essentially nothing in North America that hasn't been killed with the old 06. Sure, it does take some marksmanship to be certain, but that's just practice with your rifle, which everyone should do if they intend to be a serious hunter. Just don't fall in love with lightweight bullets, stick to 180 grains and above and you cannot go wrong.

.270 or 30-06? My dad has a .270 Win so I built a 30-06. If he'd of had a 30-06, I would have likely built a .270 Win. Six of this, one half dozen of the other... Jason "Chance favors the prepared mind."

Obviously there are fans of the '06 here and I am one. However if you are trying to build a hunting gun collection and you have the 243 and the 270 I would consider skipping over the '06 and look at the 338 Win Mag. My next preference would be the 300 Win Mag. This would be if you plan to go west or hunt elk size game. Then you have a good back up rifle to your 270 on the mid size stuff and vice versa with the 338 and the big stuff.

I have loaded many hundreds of rounds for my Remington 270's and 30-06. Never missed a beat and never had a problem in the field from Alaska thru Colorado to Minnesota. Don't believe all that hype on the crf. I for one believe there is a notable difference in energy between a 130gr. 270 and a 180gr. to 220gr. 30-06. Never met an elk that wasn't willing to spend a winter in my freezer when he or she ran into a 180gr Partition.

First, let me jump in here too regarding the comment on Rem. 700s being pathetic. I have 9 of the 700 actions and have never had a problem with ONE. Been shooting them for over 2 decades. They are Excellent rifles and the actions are very accurate. Regarding the calibers of choice, get what you want. I have both 270 and 30.06. BUT if I were in your shoes, I would make a bit of a jump over the 30.06 and go with a belted magnum. Don't be afraid of the belt. I'd opt for the 300Win also. Nothing wrong with the WSMs. But a 30.06, IMO, is the perfect caliber. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns
