I used 4350 and 4831 for years, but they don't meter well IMO, so I went to RL-22, made life easier and picked up a few FPS.

That's definitely the case Ray archer

I used IMR 4831 as I had 10 pounds of it..and wanted to burn it up.

RL-22 is one of the most useful powders on the market.

Ive owned more than a few 300 H&Hs over the years and every one of them shot like a house afire..they are by design an accurate caliber and won all manor of long range shoots over the years...Some say they are hard on brass as per case design, that's bunk, the don't know how to resize 300 H&H cases, their headspacing on the rim..thats a no no!! and the Nosler partitions were deadly on small Whitetails including Coues deer and worked as well on elk up close in timber and across a divide. We don't have canyons in Idaho, we have divides!!

I used H, IMR, and ww2 4831 powder for years, but with the advent of RL-22 that meters easy, is safe as can be, fills the case, and will get 3000 FPS with a 180 and 2900 plus with a 200 gr. its hard to beat...Been playing with RL-25 and hey it may be even better, but schools still out on that one. All my 300 Hollands will take more powder than the books call for without undue pressure. A couple of books call for 76 grs with the 180 and others recommend 71 as max. even 68m so Its pretty much up to you where you go with that..My two present rifles were best at 73 with 180s and 69 or 70 with 200s...All loads were without pressure signs and primers remained tight up to 8 to 10 reloadings, so I backed off a grain to be safe and shot 180s at 3000 give or take and 200s at 2900 plus a little..Thats where my accuracy was..

Just had a current model 70 Safari Classic in 375H&H re-barrelled to 300H&H and found a Super Grade stock for it. Still sorting loads but will be trying for 3000fps with 180gr Woodleigh. Hopefully it will be coming back to Africa with me next year tu2

Cheers,
Mark.

It's the bottom one Wink

Bluefish,
All had 26 inch barrels..MOst had Lothar Walthar barrels and they are usually fast barrels..The factory guns I had were 26", mod. 70 and Rem 721s..I only used them for walking hunts or shooting out of the pickup! I love the 300 H&H but recognize its use, and that the 06 is much handier.better in a saddle scabbard and it the thick stuff..I used the 300 a lot in Africa..and sometimes in the mountains of Idaho when I was younger..IMO all belted magnums need a 26 inch barrel.

im a big fan of the 300 h&h as I shot my elk with it, my rifle is very accurate and it hits very hard on both ends and IMR made 4350 for the 300 H&H its a wonderful rifle so go enjoy.
