Zastava now in the US. Any good?

Zastava Arms finally has a US presence, and it imports a Mauser action rifle called M70 which I've had my eyes on for a few years. I know these Zastava actions where used in the past by Remington, and from what I read these M70 rifles seem to work fine but have stocks that could be better. Have anyone here used them? Do they cycle reliably and shoot accurately?

ATF won't allow the importation of the M98 ... it's a "modified military rifle" ..one of the most screwed up aspects of the firearms act.

Zastava has been through a parade of importers .. Interarms, Daly, Renington .. for a reason. Their rifles are not the problem, it's their almost complete lack of consumer skills. "You will buy what we make" vs. "We will make what you will buy".

The one unique thing they have going for them is their left-handed commercial mauser.

I have two. A model 70 in 30-06, and one in 375 H&H. Both are left handed. The 30-06 shoots LC69 milsurp into 1 1/4 at 100, and the 375 puts five into .700 at 100 with 270 grain TSXs.

Metal is very well done with flawless deep bluing, but as the man said, the wood needs some TLC. Function on both rifles has been flawless. They just feed, shoot, and eject with NO problems. Would I buy another one? In a heart beat.

Acquired a number of Zastava LKM70's and Remington 798's (LKM70 barreled actions in Remington stocks). Good utilitarian-type rifles. Fully adjustable triggers. No issues with feed, extraction, ejection or accuracy. Some say the actions could be smoother.

One of my LKM70's is a 20" barrel full stock 375 H&H mag converted to 416 Rem mag.

Great information. Here is the American website for those curious

https://zastavaarmsusa.com

They have an Instagram too

I was happy to see them sold on popular gun sites and maybe I'll pick one up. The prices seem insane dancing

Thanks

hopefully we will be able to get parts too.

Have a 270, 30-06, and a mini that was originally 22-250, all marked Charles Daly.

I have four of the LHs so far.

I bought them because I'm a lefty and for the price they are the only game in town for a Mauser 98 derivative.

As stated above, they shoot well, have decent triggers once adjusted and feed and function ok.

Would I buy one if there were other options readily available in LH like a Model 70, probably not.

I've got a Zastava 9.3x62 with surprisingly good wood and it seems to shoot quite well, so far.

Some of the Zastava stocks are cheesy, though, and the chequering is ho-hum but in metal-work they are the inheritors of the classic FN Mauser style. Apparently they bought FN's Mauser tooling and one AR member thinks the metallurgy is better than the Belgians' was.

It might pay to avoid the stainless actions though, as I have seen one with a hairline crack around the front receiver ring.

One thing that I noticed when I bought my left handed Zastava was that all the guns came with the same contour barrel. The muzzle diameter of my 458 Win Mag was .660" so the wall thickness at the muzzle was .101". This made the 458 very muzzle light and the recoil substantial especially with the high rollover comb on the stock.

I had mine re-barreled with a .750" (muzzle) diameter barrel and like it a lot more.
