9.3 X 62 barrel length/contour question
i picked up a weatherby vanguard action for this build.
what length and contour is recommended for the best BALANCE?
i have seen barrels from 19.25 to 26" with #2 contour to full bull.
this will go in a quality synthetic stock w/ 14.5 LOP.
thanks--cam

I like mine about 22 inches, but friends have them at 19 to 20, and they swear by them. Most of mine are 17mm at the muzzle, not sure what contour that would compare too.

light as possible, no more than 23", no less than 18 ... everything else is a matter of your preferences at the moment

I went 20.5". I've only owned one so I have nothing to compare it to but I really like it.

The x62 seems to work well in barrels between 52-58 cm (21-23 inches)

It also works well in 25.6" barrels. I have them currently ranging from 22" to 26". My go to 9,3x62 wears a 24" bbl. Depending on the type of rifle you want to build 20" to 26" would be fine.

I put a Lothar Walther #722 25.59" on my VZ-24 then cut it to ~22.5" and added a brake that brought the overall length back up to 25".

It looks a little skinny, tho'...maybe the #724, same length but a slight bit fatter would look and forward balance a bit better...who knows...the 22.5" velocity is plenty good with 270 and 286 gr Hornady's.

Whatever length you use is basically a personal bias and a slight increase in velocity with the longer tubes.

What about doing a 9.3 Ruger?? Seems to be a bit of interest in that one lately...definitely more ballistic possibilities...wish the Ruger case had beed available when I did mine, I would have jumped on it.

Just a thought...

Mine has a 20" barrel in an ultra light contour, measures .59" at the muzzle.
With scope 7 pounds 14 ounces.
Kinda pounds you a bit from the bench with full power 285 grain bullets. (I know 9.3's don't kick but this one does)
It handles and carries really nice though and can shoot under an inch (.6") 3 shots if I do my part.
