Has anyone checked the serial number information on oldguns.net against another source? I don't know what made me do it, but I rechecked the serial number of a pre-64 M70 that I had looked up from another source. I was under the impression from the first source that the gun had been made in 1951, however the oldguns site indicated 1950. Not a big deal to most, but the gun is for sale and a potential buyer wanted a 1951 rifle as that is his birth year. I told him of the discrepancy and gave him all the info I had so that he could try to sort it out on his own. Anyway, anyone else run into discrepancies like this between different sources?
I used a site like that once and thinking that someone can trace me thru my ISP and scan that site I don't use it at all anymore. I might use it again and enter numbers before and after the one I want.
Year is stamped on my Model 54 on the bottom of the barrel near the recoil lug. It says 27 while the site you talk about says the rifle was built in 1928. Could simply be a difference between when the components were made and the rifle shipped.
