For the first time i am trying to post a photo at AR!

As you know i am very fond of the various nitroloaded 9,3mm calibres.

From left to right:
9,3x57, 9,3x62, 9,3x63, 9,3x64 Brenneke, 9,3x65R Brenneke -the rimmed version of the 9,3x64, 9,3x66, The Powerhouse 9,3x70 and the 9,3x74R.

My favorite is the 9,3x63 (based on a necked down 10,75x68 case. Perhaps 10 year older than the .373H&H but deliver the same performance as the .375H&H or the 9,3x64.

I have ordered an old issue of a cartridge collectors journal, and the Hatari Times issue with more information on this cartridge.

I am wondering if this cartridge is more like a .338 Remington Ultra Mag necked up to .366, or more like the 330 Dakota, also necked up?

Does anybody still load this round, or is it clanking around in history's closet along with fat Hermann's soul?

It would be easy to convert a Model 70 classic to handle this cartridge, but I would sure love to have some properly headstamped brass.

I would like to build one as well. Maybe on that new yugo mauser action that Legacy is importing. I was just going to toss there 375 barrel, and send it to Pac-Nor with a reamer and go no go gauges.

If this turns out to be a viable project, I'll be doing mine next fall. If you have Jim Kobe do the work he can use my reamer and gauge on your rifle also.

Is the 9.3x70EM, based on the .404j necked down?

I don't know (I don't know much, anyway). It almost looks like there is a rim on the case in the picture above.

Yes it's a 9.3x404!

Harold Wolf used to have his 9.3x70 article on his http://www.hataritimes.com magazine website, but he took it down.

Do a search for Hermann Gorings 9.3x70 rifle on google.

'Expert Magnum'? Confused I wager most experts never heard of this one!

Hi,
"Expert" is the name of the case maker I think... The 9,3x70 is a cartridge developed by RWS.

I rather go for a 9,3x65R SbS double thumb

Thanks husky,
I'll take a look at the catalogues and see what I can find on both cartridges.

I'll tell boha and cewe that you want that double for christmas or your birthday this year. I'm sure they'll sell of some guns to buy you one. That would be nice in a break action single shot. Please post a picture of the double that you are lusting after.

When I come over to visit in a couple years you guys can take me around to visit friends and I'll do my best "ugly american" act so the socialists will feel even better about their political choices.

Woodjack,
I'll take a look on the Reimer Johansen website as well.

D99,
When you are back state side lets go shoot road signs out in the country.

lawndart,
That sounds a great idea!
A photo of my double?
Well it's going to my gunsmith tomorrow for some work. It shoots really nice, caliber even better than the 9,3x65R -It's a Belgian Janssen Sons & Co in "Jeffery´s Thripple Three" ( 333 Jeffery Flanged)

Thanks Charles,
My gunsmith P O Stenmark -doublefifle builder, will make a major "tune -up" of the "Thripple Three" including new Case hardening of the action, a Helia 1,5- 5 scope in German clawmounts etc.

I think the caliber will suit me very fine for driven Moose and wildboar hunts here in Sweden but also good for Bush Veld hunts up to and including Eland.

I tried to find the article I had read on the 9.3x70 but it must have been the one that has been taken off the Hatari Times web site. If I recall correctly it was truly a "magnum" 9.3.

Husky -- I am sure that the "Triple Three" will serve you well and would love to see it again when you get it back from the gunsmith.

I suscribed to Hatari Times and ordered all their back issues. It will be interesting to read the article about the monster 9,3.

There is a cartridge collectors association. I ordered their back issue #421 that has also has an article about the 9.3 x 70.

Of course, as I find the time and money it will be necessary to build a rifle for this cartridge. Single shot? Bolt action? Find the brass to buy? Make the brass out of .404 Jeffrey brass or Dakota brass?

I too would like to see pictures of your rebuilt double rifle.

You will have to bring the rifle to Idaho some day.

A friend of mine has a 35 Winchester double rifle that is very similar to your "triple three". He lives not far from me in Oregon. Perhaps we can go over and hunt deer or elk.

Life is too short. There is too much that we need to do before we go to Valhala.

Hallo Husky, you are looking for a 9,3x65R, oh, very difficult to find! But my gunmaker (Büchsenmacher) has a Krieghoff-Teck O/U in 9,3x64(!!!) with free-lying barrels with a 4x32 Zeiss or Hensoldt-Scope for only 2700Euro! Little money!
In the Nosler Reloading Guide No.4, you can see the Nosler Rep. for the Batic Region, Lars-Olaf Swanteson with exactly the same gun in the same caliber on side 411!

Monastery-Forester,
Don't you know that it is unnatural to pile rifle and shoot gun barrels over each other!

I consider O/U are as close one can get to Sodomi!

Think you can buy cases from Horneber and reloading dies are available from triebel.

It's possible to form brass from 404 Jeffery.
Naturally it shall be built on a mauser clap

Husky- I know of a drilling in 12X70/9,3X65R roflmao Procured cheap since caliber was "non-existent" Cool

Hello Johan, you are sure, that this drilling is in a 9,3x65R brenneke? There is also a 9,3x65R Collath, which was quite often used in Collath drillings, but this is a very soft, old caliber - something like a short 9,3x72R.
Husky, like nearly all scandinavian persons you have only one thing in your brain! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

It's a 9,3X65R brenneke built on a very rigid blitz action.

Some of you Americans should have more pride and bring back the .35 Newton! yankees Quit comparing these "metickraut" cartridges to the .375H&H, don't you know where such comparisons lead? Obscurity and kaput! rotflmo

I think as you indicate it is just because someone saw it on the brass -- I saw that suggestion elsewhere recently as well.

I'm curious because this is a DWM design, possibly 1928 as Case # 569 and the original blueprint for the cartridge dimension does not show "expert" anywhere in the designation

There are more modern / recent cases with the Name brand "Expert" on the head but the type font and way it is stamped seems the indicate that the word "Expert" is a name brand as is Federal or Norma etc.

The company that makes the brass now calls it that. I believe that is also how it is registered with the CIP.

Alf: I am looking at my DATIG " Cartridges for collectors" Vol 1 , page 71 and he says about the 9.3x70R " Not to confused with the 9.3x70m/m(rimless), which is the metric designations for the .375 Holland and Holland Maggnum.(DWM case number 569)." Dose it or dose it not say that? Datig is not god and why would he call a cartridge that uses a .375 bullet a 9.3 and not 9.5, I do not know.

This is still a caliber I am very interested in building. There have been several post related to it. Some of the other posts also had similar charts and history behind the caliber includind the African Hunter Magazine article on it.

Here is one I started before:

9.3X70mm DWM Expert Magnum

BTW when a reamer is found, or made to specs I would love to know...This would be an excellent cartridge. It should have power and range at least equal to the 375 H&H.

Would this fit nicely into a MRC1999 long action?

Lately I seem to be the death of a thread [no posts after me!].....I would love to hear more of peoples plan for this thread. I was planning a rifle on this caliber originally, but had recently though maybe a 9.3X62mm would suffice. After asking on the African thread, I was told that I lacked a long range caliber for plains game. Instead o fthe 9.3X62 what about bumping it up to the 9.3X70mm Expert magnum [DWM]?????

Looks like a big baadaaaass cartridge, I would expect it to outperform .375H&H. Wink From practical standpoint on scale from 1 to 10 it's about -10! Frowner
Very GQish cartridge, if I could find convenient source of ammo I would definitely own one. thumb

Reimer Johannsen tells me that my 100 cases of 9.3 x 70 M brass should clear US Customs in the next week (I've heard that story many times in the last thirty years!).

Anyway, as soon as the brass gets here, I'll send three pieces off to the reamer maker.

The designated model 70 action is packed for its appointment with a grinder, etc, etc.

I'll get the barrel from Jim Baiar, for a change of pace (My last Krieger came from Wisconsin with cheese and bratwurst grease stains on the shipping carton).

Who made the brass and from what reamer/dies? Does Reimer Johannsen chamber this round typically for his rifles??? I am very curious to begin collecting the necessary items to being this project, although I have one going very very slowly right now!

P.S. When you get the brass in, please take some photos of it! For scale maybe use some typical rounds next to it too.
