I am pretty certain that my next medium bore will be a 338 RCM. A short action, non-rebated rim cartridge with an oomph factor splitting the 338-06 and 338 WinMag. I guess it could also be described as the 350 RemMag without a belt and with a wider bullet selection. I want one

Have you ever seen the FatMax? 20mm shortened and necked to .511 I could not imagine all the powder in a 20mm case could burn in time to get a .308 out of a barrel. but if it did, how about a .17 BMG? or a .17-20mm

my next is making either a converting a savage 99 300 to a 270 savage or taking one of my winnies and making a 35-30 why not be different ?

35 Whelen on a VZ-24 action

I would like to send some rifles in for rebarreling.

While I loved and miss my stolen 35 Whelen, I think it will be replaced by a 9,3x66. A good bit more power without geting into the magnum class. Now if I could just find a good Finnbear in 30-06 to build it on. I have been looking at the Montana Rifle action, too.

Next medium bore was uncertain (could have been any one of several) until last Sunday. After trying for a year I was able to buy a 1940 vintage Winchester mdl 71 deluxe, caliber of course is .348. It still had the original bolt peep, but I do need to find the original sling swivels that I put away some time ago. The shop owner had wanted to keep it for himself but finially decided I must need it more than he did. It's amazing what a stack of pictures of old Ben Franklin will do for changing a persons mind.

How about a 32-20?? It is what I am having built now (see photos 2 before 2 after color case hardening by Doug Turnbull). After that is 280 Ackley.

....As I consider the 375 a kind of a medium bore Then probably a 375 Ruger Alaskan ...But mayby a 338 RUM ...Oh ya I.ll bring home a 358 Winchester tomorrow ......But I wouldn,t be suprised if another 9.3x64 Brenneke built on a Ruger 77 mk 2 action didn,t happen this summer ....It has to be about the best thing out there ......It , the 358 Norma and the 375 Ruger are to me the top of the shelf ...

You are going to love that .348. I had one and sold it. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. It is the FINEST lever gun caliber ever made. Shoot the 250 grain Barnes bullets. Don't even mess with the 200 grainers!

I've got a real hankerin' to build a .358 Norma. It would be real simple to convert my M77 .338 win mag, but I just can't because it shoots so well.......Guess I'll have to buy another for a foundation.......

If you don't mind the extra work (fire-forming) you might think about the 35 Whelen Ackley Improved. The ballistic improvement is worth the effort. Out of a 22" barrel mine shoots a Hornady 250 SP at 2675 fps (chronographed) and is reasonably light weight and handy.

This rifle was built buy a guy in Texas on a VZ-24 action with a 25" barrel and wears am English Walnut stock patterened after a Rigby style stock. It has NECG sights with the rear being an express "three leaf" sight. The barrel band is also NECG. The metal was rust blued and shows no flaws that I can find. This gentleman did all the work on the gun. I have 1909 bottom metal I'll install and am trying to get one of Jim Wisner's bolt shrouds with a left sided two position safety.

not sure in what particular order here, but these are my plans ( I had to sell my battery during hard times ) since right now i'm basically starting over.

9.3x62 probably in a CZ550 for all around and hopefully Africa 2010

35 Sambar (35/300wsm) on a Howa action, I think this is going to be the "go to" gun for my primary hunting which is elk

.300wsm with a 26" tube for my long range work on antelope and elk

.338 Fed on a R700 action (this one is IN the works, waiting for the 'smith to get back on barrel prices) with a 21" for my dark timber work

I know they all kinda overlap, but hey, who needs a REASON to build a rifle?!?! Its also nice having a 'smith as a buddy who lives 3 blocks away

I looked Blaser R93 but couldn't get that feeling. So finally I ordered Mauser M03 with .308 and .22-250 barrels. Scope will be Swarovski Z6 2-12x50.
Plans for the future are 9.3x62 barrel and 1.7-10x42 Z6.

My next medium bore will be a Blaser R93 in 9,3X62 with sights and OD bases.

It's not really a Medium Bore, as defined on this forum, but lately I have been lusting after a high velocity, 25 calibre rifle. I am cogitating a comparison between the 257 Weatherby and the 25WSSM.
