Anyone using the new .338 Federal cartridge yet? Curious on how it is shooting. Anyone actually take game with it?

Do you know if anyone is chambering a gun for it other than Sako?

Just curious
Thanks

A Sako so chambered is reviewed in the latest issue of Outdoor Life. Accuracy was, to say the least, disappointing.

It seems to me to be a nonsensical round, considering that the .358 has been available for decades and is better suited to the kind of limited-range large game hunting for which the .338 Federal would seem to be intended. I wouldn't look for a flood of rifles chambered for Federal's only proprietary cartridge.

You might check out the Wildcat forum. Some of the guys have .338-08 rifles which is the basis of .338 Federal. I think Sako is the only company producing the rifle for this cartridge for the moment. Just a second thought check out the Reloading forum also, might get some good ballistics on the .338-08 also. I'm very interested to see what this round will do, I think that Federal would have been better off to get a company like Remington or Savage to produce the rifle though.

Is the 338 Federal truly a 338-08 or did they do some little thing toi it to make it "special" in the SAMMI specs?
