hikerbum.338 Federal
Anyone using the new .338 Federal cartridge yet? Curious on how it is shooting. Anyone actually take game with it?
Do you know if anyone is chambering a gun for it other than Sako?
Just curious
Thanks

StonecreekA Sako so chambered is reviewed in the latest issue of Outdoor Life. Accuracy was, to say the least, disappointing.
It seems to me to be a nonsensical round, considering that the .358 has been available for decades and is better suited to the kind of limited-range large game hunting for which the .338 Federal would seem to be intended. I wouldn't look for a flood of rifles chambered for Federal's only proprietary cartridge.

taylorce1You might check out the Wildcat forum. Some of the guys have .338-08 rifles which is the basis of .338 Federal. I think Sako is the only company producing the rifle for this cartridge for the moment. Just a second thought check out the Reloading forum also, might get some good ballistics on the .338-08 also. I'm very interested to see what this round will do, I think that Federal would have been better off to get a company like Remington or Savage to produce the rifle though.

TCLouisIs the 338 Federal truly a 338-08 or did they do some little thing toi it to make it "special" in the SAMMI specs?
