I am not very knowledgeable with gun values.

With that said, can I get some recommendations on a good gun reference guide. Or, a website that can easily reference this.

As much as I want to buy guns, I at least want to have some sort of reference in regards to value.

I have a system which I have found useful in determining current market value for the more common guns on the market.

I go to Gunbroker and under the Search feature, I select "Advanced".
When I reach the Advanced Search feature, I select "Completed Items" and then provide a description of the gun I am interested in. This should generate several offerings of guns which have either sold, or because there were no bids or bids which failed to meet the reserve price, have failed to sell. Only the guns which actually sold will be useful for your purpose.

Once you have eliminated the guns which failed to sell, the prices brought by the guns which actually did sell should be informative. However, one more step should be taken: the description of each of the guns actually sold should be read to determine whether there is some special feature which either adds or detracts from the sale price and take that variation in the price paid into account.

If you are lucky, there should be several completed sales which will give you a valid reflection of the actual market value.

here is an easy rule of thumb to remember.
the price tag in the gun store is 100$ more than it should be.
it 200$ more at a gun show.
and worth half what you paid for it when selling.

simple.

I went through this a few years ago when I was facing some dire health issues. The internet will get you an approximate value for guns which have been traded but for those that are more unique I bought a copy of The Blue Book of Gun Values.

Years of taking a lick'en, time and effort, you can read all the crap out there on values but the bottom line is what someone will pay or what someone will sell for...Its hard to explain, but you buy and sell enough guns it will come to you sooner or later..
