Usually the cost of reboring a barrel exceeds the cost of rebarreling with a premium barrel. I have not priced barrels for the #1 but I know they are considerably more expensive than those for the typical bolt rifle. In this case reboring might be a viable alternative. I have seen reboring services offered by a couple of the major barrel makers in the U.S.A. If you are simply bored with the 270, you might consider having the rifle rechambered to 270 Wea Mag. It should be fairly ecenomical to have the modifications done to let it handle the magnum configuration. Or if you are feeling adventurous, there are many wildcat cartridges available in 270 cal. Some based on the 300 Win necked to 270, or you could try a wildcat based on the ultramag family in long, medium, or short length. The rechambering job is usually much more ecenomical than rebarreling, especially so with a #1. If these options are not attractive to you. The option remains to find another #1 in the same configuration as yours and in the desired cartridge, then have the trigger tuned. You will find that many of us, if not the majority, whom participate on these boards have traded off perfectly good firearms just for the chance to try something different. Some have even lamented the loss of that sweet little whatever it was at a later date. But sometimes you just have to scratch an itch.

Quote: fireman, The .318 Westley Richards is very similar to the .338-06 but, of course, the .318 is the original. It has a .330" diameter bullet in spite of the name. Woodleigh makes bullets and I believe Hawk does also. Case is very similar to the .30-06. (Cases can be made from 06 brass.) I'm not sure if you're .270 Win could be rechambered (and rebored) for the .318 as I think the shoulder is father forward on the .270 case than on the .318 WR. I could be mistaken, though. I'm not an expert on these things. Maybe the barrel could be set back? Someone else will know better than I. Deerdogs can fill you in better on the .318 as I believe he owns one. -Bob F. Bob, Fireman I certainly do own one and a little peach she is too. I reckon you just about covered all the based Bob, although I might add that you can make the brass out of 30 06 and CH4D make 318 WR dies. Load as for 338 06. I suspect that a new barrel would be the way to go. I'd get a reasonably stiff profile as the 250 grains could be lively in a No1. No sense in making it a chore. So far all I have shot with mine is roebuck, but I am itching to use it on something a bit more sustansial. The calibre has an awesome reputation - see The book on Shot Placement for African Game by Doctari Robertson. Take a look at those bullets - you just KNOW they are going to penetrate like a DU penetrating rod through a cheap Chinese tank.
