My dream rifle is too simple, yet so far away. All I want is someone to provide me a composite stock w/ a hidden magazine for my Sako 75 Finnlight 300WSM.

Thats all I want. Its usually the simple stuff thats the hardest to come by.

I’m lucky enough to have my (current) Dream rifle… a MGA 338WM. If I were lucky enough to get another one… it would be a MGA in 375 Ruger, or 458WM (or Lott).
I guess I would let Kerry pick the action… I like Remington but I understand I should get a controlled round feed action…
If I play my cards right my dream may come true, never can tell.

My dream rifle? It would have to be one I build for myself instead of a customer. It would also have to be one that I had time to shoot off the bench and hunt with and it would have a Turkish walnut stock. as long as it is .30 or larger with 180 grains or better, everything else is just icing on the cake!

The shoe maker's kids always go barefoot, I wonder if there is a lesson for me in that?

I currently have 28 big game rifles and either have now or have owned almost everything I ever wanted, as a boy growing up "poor" in '50s B.C.

NOW, IF I had the $$$$, there are very FEW rifles I would want, Buuuuuuutttt, here are a few....

1. Full custom on an original Magnum Mauser, chambered .404J, by D'Arcy Echols.

2. As above, on a 1935 Obie, chambered 9.3x62, by Duane Weibe.

3. As above, on a Brno 21/22, chambered .280R or 7x64B, by Ralf Martini.

The last I will very likely have built in due course as I have the action, Kreiger tube and most parts I need, Recknagel trigger, sights,Satterlee safety and will get Weibe bottom metal and Talley rings or maybe the ones made like Burgess did.

I would also want:

1. Westley-Richards, hinged droplock sxs rifle, spare pins and locks, chambered .450N.E. and cased. 1930's vintage and "rose and scroll".

2. Wilhelm Foerster, sxs 9.3x74R, claw mounted scope, such as a 2.75X Zeiss from 1960s and with spare strikers, pins and cased....I would commit unspeakable acts to own one of these!

I will leave it there, but, there "could" be others I would like to have........... Smiler

Wow, talk about dredging up the past. I haven't seen this thread in a year and a half.

On the first page, I posted a photo of my Marlin 336SS straight grip, and that was my "dream gun" for a long time. I have since broadened my horizons, and I am now impatiently awaiting the importation of my newest dream gun.

In April, I ordered a Blaser BBF 97 12 ga over 308 short barrel version, and as of last week, it was "somewhere" between German customs and US customs in transit.

I will post pictures when it gets here.

I currently own or have owned every firearm I ever really longed for. Does this mean I won't see one tomorrow that I won't say to myself' boy,I'd like to have that', of course not. Michael Petrov posts on here regularly and almost everything he posts I would 'like' to have. Do I long for or dream about them ,no. I have been most fortunate to either have few dreams or to have ones that were easily filled and within my means. I always dreamed of having a custom rifle built to my exact specifications. I have in recent years been able to have 2 built by extremely close friends. I consider myself to have been especially blessed in this respect. Will I have others built ,probably not, don't know what I would ask to have built. Money or rarity has NEVER entered into any of my longed for firearms. Although most have been of an ordinary factory varity devoid of extensive ornamentation they have all filled some unexplainable wish in my life. Some of these have been owned for only a brief time and then been traded to make way for another. The trade was and is always regretted as I have NEVER bought a gun I didn't REALLY want to own. I learned early in life I would never be able to posess them forever. I have recently begun to parcel my remaining firearms out to my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and this give me great pleasure.

Something like this 1955 Husqvarna build? 1947 FN commercail 98 receiver w/ original side quick detach mount. This one is 8x57.

This one is a sweet 1962 M1600 Husqvarna 6.5x55

Last, but not least is a 1943 M46a in 9.3x57. It is very similar to a .358 Win in ballistics w/ a slight edge.

I have been looking for a M1981 BLR .308 for years. When I've found one either they were beat, priced way to high or both. I found a new, unfired one about 8 months ago that was perfect and priced about $200.00 under normal used condition. Should be a fine 400- yard rifle. It has a steel reciever, not aluminum. I topped it w/ a Sightron 3-9x42mm scope. She is sweet.

In the early 70's I used to get Roy Weatherby's catalogs and dream of having my own .300 Wby. One with beautiful figured walnut, custom hand cut checkering, and capable of shooting 1/2 moa with 180 gr (Barnes TSX) bullets at 3200 fps.

This past year that dream came true, although it's a Vanguard instead of a Mark V, but it's all that I listed above and the best part is that I did most of the work myself.

Once in a while you're lucky. I got my small caliber dream rifle last year. Is a 6mm Rem. Maybe you recognize it:

(Is the Ottmar Raffle rifle Wink )

Would love to have a large bore done to the same quality ... a .404 Jef maybe. Several wonderful smiths on AR that are capable of building something like that.

BUT ... I am NOT complaining or even thinking that's vaguely possible. Am already WAY luckier than I'd ever hoped to be!

Since the topic is "dream rifles" might suggest you checkout www.hoferwaffen.com Very few mortals will ever actually aqcquire them, but they are truly "things dreams are made of..." and are considered as Works of Art in the gunworld. Since I am not one of the fortunate mortals, I would settle for a best grade G&H Springfield "03. As for Peter's web site, might warn you that it will take better part of an afternoon to review all he has to offer.

I finally put my "dream rifle" together this summer for my 48th birthday... nothing fancy, just a straight-up hunting rig.

I located a Pre-64 M70 30-06 Featherweight that was 99% and unfired. It also happens it was made the month after I was born in 1961. I sold off the wood and bedded it in a McMillan Edge. To lose nearly another ounce, I swapped out the metal follower for a post-64 graphite job. To complete the project I mounted a 6x36 Leupold LR in Talley Lightweights and added an Uncle Mikes Mountain sling. So-outfitted with five rounds it goes a half once over 7lbs 5oz's.

If, you sell THAT one, I will drive down there and personally kick your butt!!! Smiler

I have one just like that but in an original Pacific Research-Rimrock stock I bought in 1991 and a pair in .270W., one I bought in 1990 in a Brown Precision Kevlar and the other in an Edge with a blind mag.

The latter weighs about what your's does, with Talley QDs and a Zeiss Conquest 3x9 and all of them SHOOT far better than I can hold.

Best damm hunting rifle ever made in the USA and one of the 4-5 best in the whole dang world, IMO. If, a guy can't "do it" with a P-64 Fwt. in .30-06 in an Edge, he should take up "tatting".......!!!!!

Dewey, she's staying, but if you did come accross the border you better have some beer with you!

The quality of the old Pre-64's is something to behold compared to the USRAC offerings. If I were inclined to want to use the irons as a backup sight source I'd do exactly what you did and go with the QR Talleys for sure...
