My wife bought a stripped lower on a whim, brought it home and asked for something not 5.56.

I have two .300blk guns, I took a nice 8 point a few years ago using a 125gr SST and the damage was impressive. But I’ve tried it with dummy rounds and a 5.56 will indeed chamber a super sonic .300blk round making it scary to have both cartridges on the shooting bench at the same time.

Researching my wife’s new rifle we looked at a bunch of candidate cartridges and decided on the .300Ham’r. Got a Wilson barrel, RCBS dies and other sundry parts in. The little rifle went together without issue and will shoot 1/2” 50 yard groups with a 2 MOA red dot sight. You are somewhat limited as to projectiles and the best magazines I’ve found are the Magpul dedicated .300blk mags.
While you can make Ham’r brass out of 5.56 it’s just easier to order proper headstamped stuff from Starline.
Wilson sells their ammo which shoots well and a local gun shop has .300Ham’r ammo loaded by SIG Arms. We haven’t shot any of that yet but intend to rectify that in the near future.

Rick, you married well. Not many wives do such things. Cool

We should all be so fortunate or wise.

Well, I got it all put together:

That lower is an Armalite that I've had for more than ten years. It's solid and has a custom trigger and some other custom features. The trigger is excellent. I can't remember the brand.

That's an ambidextrous charger handle. BTW.

Also BTW, I'm right handed, but my dominate shooting eye has shifted to my left eye. I have a cataract in my right eye, which my doctors won't mess with - yet - long story. So, I have to shoot left handed. It hasn't been a big problem so far.

I had to order the scope base and rings and chose Leupold because I had good luck with them before and they fit and look right and the price is good too. That base/rings aligns my cheek/eye just right to match that type of buttstock. It's a solid setup.

The 10 round magazines, Lancer, are from Wilson Combat. (300 Blackout) I already had the scope - a Leupold 2x7 old school and the lense covers/caps - Butler Creek which work good.

I don't have the sling on it yet, but I've got one set aside.

I went ahead and ordered three boxes of ammo from Wilson Combat - the Hornady 135 gr FTX.

That will give me the std to go by.

I have a trip to Texas planned, leaving soon, and plan on spending two weeks fishing and hog hunting. My buddy says hogs are easy - the right size for butchering - 80 to 120 lbs. He's mostly always been right about that. We are also going for appaloosa catfish in the clean lake adjacent to his home, trotline and rod. IMO, that's the best eating catfish and they can be large.

So, I'm taking a 110 volt five cubic ft freezer with me in addition to the ac/dc frig/freezer already in the camper van. I plan on bringing back some wild pork and catfish, all boned out and vacuum sealed and frozen.

It's a two-day trip for me, each way, so I'll hookup to shore power to run the AC freezer while there and at night on the back trip. The AC/DC freezer I can run on battery/converter setup during the day, traveling, and shore power 110 volt at night, camping. I don't yet have the proper inverter installed to run the AC only freezer on 12 volt battery but I will hard freeze the contents before leaving and hit it again overnight with shore power.

BTW, I have the camper setup with two 110 amp hr lithium house batteries, with 12 volt to 12 volt isolator/converter/charger so as to not over do the alternator. The unit moderates the current flow just right for lithium and prevents backflow to the truck battery bank (Two battery parallel high cranking amp for diesel). The lithium battery house connection is parallel which results in 12 volt, 220 amp hr. It's blue tooth too, so I monitor with my tablet. Expensive but hopefully worth it. So far, so good.

Anyway, next project is sighting in. I tried the feeding but it's awkward without actual firing. I'll know more when the weather clears and I set up the bench and targets in my back yard.

More later.
