Guys,

Anyone got any MRP loads for 180 and 200 gr bullets in 300 WM. My favorite RL powders seem to be permanently out of stock but there is plenty of MRP available.

I have used the following:
For 180 grs bullets and MRP;
Start 74 grs, max 76 grs.

For 200 grs bullets and MRP:
Start 71 grs, max 73 grs.

These are with the Norma Oryx bullet, and safe in my rifle.

If you look at the burn rates MRP and RL-22 are very similar.....I actually prefer MRP over RL-22. You can use your RL-22 load data to develop a load with MRP......just follow standard loading practice of reducing and working up.

I like 73 grs of MRP behind a 210 Berger...2935 fps with a 26" barrel. No PSI signs, and I use this for long range shooting with routine hits at 900 yds. Nice firm primer pockets and many repeat reloadings on the cases with the same load. I think I could approach 3000 fps with a grain or two more and still remain safe.

Thank you gentleman. I thought I remembered that RL-22 and MRP were very close. I just loaded some rounds substituting the MRP for RL-22. I'll let you know how it works out.

MRP and RL 22 are the same. For 180s I use 76GR of RL22/MRP interchangeably and F-210 primers.

RL-22 is THE POWDER in any 300 magnum IMO. Makes my 300 H&H or my 300 Win Magnum a 300 Wby for all practical purposes..

While it is true that RL-22 and MRP are the same spec powders manufactured by the same company (Bofors), both powders are infamous for greater lot-to-lot variations than are most canister powders. Substituting one for the other is fine, but just as switching from one lot to another of the same brand powder, you should recheck your loads to see that the performance remains constant.

Overhere MRP is known for its lot#-to-Lot# consistancy...

I've had RL22 that matched and some that was hotter. I wouldn't just "assume" they were the same. coffee

As usual just my $.02

Guys,

I actually chronographed a 30-06 load today with 180 NP and MRP using RL 22 data. 61 gr gave about 2775 FPS and 1 MOA accuracy from my 24" barrel HVA. Also rec'd similar results with MRP with the 300 WM AND 168 TSX. 75 gr MRP gave 3180 and 1 MOA. I'm pretty happy with that.

I've used both in 280 Rem. RL-22 will get to excess pressure in the 280 case W/140gr bulets while MRP will barely get to 60K W/compressed loads. MRP will out perform RL-22 by 100fps at lower pressure in that particular application.

That doesn't sound right. I have an old can of Win WMR (Win Mag Rifle powder). That was a ball powder. You saying Win repackaged stick powder?

i could be wrong -- in fact, come to think of it, i don't think i actually verified that "rumor" -- though i read it from a pretty good source, when i started reloading
