I am thinking of purchasing one of these in .308 or 7-08 for a ranch "run around gun". Does anyone have any experiences good or bad with these rifles? What is a good price on a NIB?
My experience with them has been totally positive. For a run around gun I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the 7mm-08. I have one in Model 7 stainless and a Savage Sierra. I bought the Savage to play around with the calibre which was new to me at the time and I liked it so well I bought the Remington after and I like that even better.

If you're looking for a beater, a throw behind the seat of the truck rifle, get a 7-08. Good selection of bullets. Also, get a Savage. That way when it gets beat up, you won't notice.

Salixco I have EXTENSIVE experience with the following Remington Model 7's: 223, 243, 6MM, eight 308's, and a 350 Rem Mag. ALL were excellent shooters, very accurate. Two of the 308's were shot a great deal on paper out to 600 yards. The others were shot out to 300 yards on paper. The Rem Mod 7 is one of my favorite rifles. The 308 is my favorite caliber in a Mod 7 as it is good for all game from coyote to black bear and even elk.
