I am not a great fan of rems or SMags in general, however the Ti.300SAUM kinda appeals in some way. And if I did ever contemplate aShort mag, the rem favours over the win.I would not necessarily try to match a normal 300mag,but maybe just run a good strong ballistically efficient 180@2800, maybe with a polygonal bore barrel for extra Vel.(2900fps),without extra recoil or high pressures. Sorta like a supercompact, supercharged 30/06, if you know what I mean.
In regard to the rifle, I like that barrelprofile&length, but would be quite happy with it in 308win.
In any case, just like to know how your SAUM rigs are going, and how happy you are with them.

This was just one range session a week & 1/2 ago in which I fired only three groups from a 300SAUM factory rifle.

I'm still trying a few different loads in this rifle but, I believe I will use the H380 load of 61 grains pushing the 168 CTNBT w/ WLR primers on a couple of whitetails this fall. I tried the same charge w/ fed 215s and the spread was worse and as you can see the group was a little bigger.

I've shot several other little groups like this through this rifle during load development so I think she's going to be a keeper.

In the cool spring time I'll be trying a few more bullets through it.

I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a rifle chambered in this cart if they weren't a handloader.

Good Luck

I have the 7saum in a Ti. Solid 3/4 inch shooter with several bullets, including factory ammo. I'm going to add a floorplate in it to get an extra round in the magazine. Other than that it's a pretty sweet rifle.
I wasn't sold on the heavier profile at first but I think it does help keep the recoil down. Also, there is no feeding problem that I have encountered yet.
I think of mine like a 280ai (the same capacity) in a short action with no fireforming needed. People love the 280ai but hate the 7saum.

I have the Model 7 in 7mmsaum. S/S topped with a Leupold 3.5 X 10. I average 7/8 groups with Partitions, and do even better with Accubonds both in 160gr. It is a very accurate rifle that handles like a dream.
I dont think that it is gonna catch on, but maybe us SAUM shooters are just ahead of our time. Cool

You will never hit the target if you don't take the shot.

Its good to hear those kind of reports.

Looking on the Hodgdon site: http://www.hodgdon.com/data/rifle/300rem-sa-ultra.php

It shows 200grainNP near 2650/55kPSI.(300yds 2110v/1980e). Use 200AB instead,(200AB=.588bc,200NP=.481bc) should nudge down range figures up. Then combine it with a polygonal bore and you see were I am coming from.
200AB-2650...300yd:2215v/2180e.
200AB-2675...300yd: 2237/2222
200AB-2700...300yd: 2259/2266
200AB-2725...300yd: 2281/2311
200AB-2750...300yd: 2309/2358
calculator: http://www.handloads.com/calc/
Depending final velocities achieved in such a rig,you could even cut the tube down to 22". If we could pop that 2700fps mark, we would be cruising nicely. Remington lists 190HPBT SAUM at 2900, so I guess 200AB 2675-2725 through a poly bore at pressures below 60kPSI seems reasonably obtainable.
Sounds like a nifty nuggety and authoritive performing rifle/ cartridge/bullet combination that would be pleasant to carry for plains game, mountain elk, or moose.
Two in the mag and one up the spout dont sound to bad. If I cant hit it with that many, one,it deserves to get away, and two, I need to start laughing at myself.
It probably sounds like a project born out of boredem, but it does sound like fun.

To Add, Nosler has Factory 200gnSaum loaded to 2750. http://www.nosler.com/index.php?p=11&b=3&s=101

I bought a 700 BDL s/s in 300 SAUM back in the spring when they were on sale with the intentions of rechambering it if it didn't shoot well...

I've only put around 40 rounds down the tube so far, and the first 20 were for barrel break in only, but since then it seems to shoot the 150 grain Accubonds around 3/4 inch to 1 inch at 100 yards. Definetly holds some promise for load development when the weather cools off a little. I'm getting around 2900-3000 fps with the 150 grainers, so not quite as fast as I was hoping for.

The rifle new was only $400 bucks, so again, I'm not too worried if it won't shoot, as it will get worked over and rechambered.
