Apparently there are some hunters and guides/outfitters who truly believe there is taboo with a 7mm bullet and that this diameter has some inherent flaw and is #1 in losing game.

Reminds me of this time I was talking to this Rancher about hunting the bison on his ranch. He said they are so dangerous that he and a friend of his back you up in case of a charge. I asked with what caliber rifles (expecting to hear 375, 416, etc). His reply, "A 7mm Mag and a 45-70."

Several years back, I was hangin out in the local gun shop, swappin stories with the local boys. An older gentleman we had never seen before walks in and decides he wants to join the conversation.

According to him, he had an old 'special built' military .30-06 that had an 'extra twist' in the barrel that caused it to shoot completely flat out to 500 yards. Said he shot ground squirrels at that 500 yard range, with absolutely no hold over at all, with only the standard peep sights!. . . . .

(that boy must have been one hell of a shot!)

The room fell silent, and a few of the locals suddenly remembered someplace they had to be. . . .

Since I quit building houses and started working in that shop now for the last 2 years, I have lot's of stories. . . . but I think that one is right up there.

Sometimes fathers tell their children things more to humor themselves or for protection. Of course this guy could have just been ignorant.

But, as for me, I know I tell my kids things to prevent them from doing things I don't want them to do. Case in point, my daughter will be 16 early next year. She's gone to some school dances, prom, etc. I tell her that if she thinks about kissing a boy, just remember, he brushes his teeth about half as many times as she does. Then I show them pictures of gingivitis, and disgusting teeth, or an oral surgery on youtube due to poor dental care. That seems to turn on a red warning light.

BTW, the look on her and her friend's faces when telling them about the lack of teeth brushing is priceless, since they are so lazy about it themselves. My kids brush 3x/day when I police them. Otherwise, they'd probably go a day or so, which is disgusting.

That is a good one. My oldest is close to that age, so I'm going to parasite your warning.

I worked for a Supervisor named Roy. Roy was a 6'3" 300+lb barrel with broom sticks for arms and legs. At any given time he had been a Navy SEAL, Marine Force Recon, etc. depending on the story.

When he retired the processing clerk had him bring in his DD214. He brought it in saying that this was the only one she could use, because his "other one" was Top Secret.Turns out he had been a Lance Corporal Clerk/Typist at 29 Palms, CA.

We were talking hunting stories in the breakroom one day. I told of a time that I had lost a nice Mulie Buck because he ran into a Jack Pine thicket. I could see him , but couldn't get a clear shot.

Roy procedes to tell us that when this happens to him. He kneels down below the branches, puts the vertical cross-hair on the edge of the tree nearest the deer. Thereby richocheting the bullet off of the tree trunk, and nailing the deer with a "bank shot". It worked for him dozens of times.

Was also told by a Gun Shop "Expert" that a fired bullet will go straight out, as flat as a table, until it runs out of velocity, and then just falls on the ground. Bet you guys didn't know that? I didn't until he cleared it up for me.

An old dude at our club told a story of killing a mule deer at 1200 yards with his .300 Win Mag. He said he had it sighted in at 400, so for the shot he just held the crosshairs just over the back of the animal

It has the same values and windage but applied to elevation. The wind has in this case pushed our bullet up and we need to back off our elevation accordingly.

i just read a pretty good one a little while ago. while reading reviews on a loading press one of the reviers by the name of 257roberts posted that the press worked great for him because for his exotic brass he never reloads fired cases instead buys new brass and loads them so the press worked great for that. this was a review on a retailers website.

Actually, he SHOULD honor the auction.

I know several people that have had their auctions won at rediculously low prices. They completed the transaction because as one of them put it "with these kinds of auctions....you takes your chances".

I have also seen people bid up to $200 over the "BIN" price! Duh!

So, IMO, they should honor the deal....if they have honor and principles.

Leupold scopes are brighter than others. The gold ring lets in more light.

These 222's will work fine in your AR15. That's what the 5.56 was developed from.

Great thread! The only problem is where to start listing them. Perhaps in no particular order.

1. Here is a classic where Bucko claimed a 22LR is the most effective Killer of all calibers.

2.400 Nitro Express - British Checkering is the "only" good checkering.

3.500N - stopping Charge"s" without aiming

4. A Haphazard SGS is better than CHE.

5. Echol's rifles are perfect and ALL OTHERS are trash.

6.The Worlds most Ignorant Reloading Suggestion!!!

7. Down-Loaded 22Hornet Deer Hunting Recommendation.

8. "This Load works great in every 30-06(or whatever cartridge you desire) it has ever been shot in!!!"(Don't worry about the SAFETY aspects.)

9. The Remington - Walker Trigger Design has "an Inherent Design Flaw".

10. Pre-64 M70s are the very best factory rifles ever made!!!!!!!!!

11. You should use Paper Target Bullets(MatchKings, Bergers, etc.) for Hunting Deer.

12. A 45gr Bullet is perfect for Deer Hunting in a 223Rem " if " you can shoot.

13. It is all about "Placement", actual Energy available at the Point-of-Impact is meaningless.

14. A rifle that can not outshoot a Savage or a Remington is a much better rifle because it costs more.

15. The Professional Hunter told me to take the Head Shot on a Zebra at 300yds with my 223Rem - and of course I made it!

A guy once claimed that he could consistently shoot 3/4" groups at 200 yards with his 6.5 X 55 Swede in it's original Mauser configuration with the iron sights.

I suggested that there was some wishful thinking involved and he came on huffily claiming he was a military sniper and knew just how to do it.....

No different than a local guy here claiming .257 Weatherby velocities from his .257 Roberts AI....
