What do you prefer, Warne or Talley-mounts? Rifle is a Mauser-DWM(1908) in .308 Norma Magnum. Are alloy-Weaver-Bases strong enough for the .308 Norma or do you recommend steel bases?

Yes, alloy Weaver type bases are strong enough. But even as Weaver bases go, the alloy bases are a pretty tinny piece of kit. Nicer are the Weaver Grand Slam steel bases - or even better the Warne manufactured Weaver bases. What is important to stay away from, IMHO, are the alloy Weaver rings. The rings work OK, but the screws are the pits... - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... I had some Talley lever locks and Warne QD Weavers in steel and their steel bases. I sold the Talleys. Love the Warne steel bases and rings. My 0.02...

Haven't tried the Warne, but I have the Tallery QR rings on my 500 Jeffery. After 400 rounds through it most of them 570g TSX's at 2300 fps to 2410 fps in an 11 lb rifle, the scope still remains zeroed in even after being repeatedly being taken off and the put back on the rifle. I couldn't be happier with the Talleys. Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

My favorites are the discontinued Warne Premiers, on Warne bases. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

Both are nice and will serve the purpose on a 308 Norma. The Warne steel set-up may be a bit stronger and more durable on a heavy-caliber rifle, as the width of their gripping surface is larger than the Talleys. I used them on a 9.5 lb 600 Overkill holding a heavy Schmidt & Bender without issue.

Burris Signatures mounted to a Weaver Style Base. No need to do any Ring Honing and they have a grip(Non-Maring) like King Kong on a Scope tube. You can spend more $$$money$$$ on Rings and Bases, but I'll take these.

Not exactly pretty, but I have to admit this is one of my favorite setups as well. No ring marks when you want to move the scope to another rifle, and it is easy to remove and replace the scope while traveling. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Absolutely!!!!!!!!!! Talley's ain't even close. There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

I guess this post is great evidence of why there is chocolate and vanilla--I have a bunch of both,(yes the old and new Warnes) many more Talley's though, and I will trade you my Warnes 4 to one for a set of Talley's. Thinking Warnes hold better than Talleys is folly, maybe the Warnes hold as good--maybe.... Look at what the high end gunsmiths use, you won't find many Warne mounts--Talley's a plenty!

I hate Apel (EAW) rings (real easy to mark the scope) but the bases and overall system is good

Talley. I have a pair of Warnes. Great rings, but they are heavy chunks of steel compared to the nicely machined Talleys. Dave

Talley light-weights, one piece, not much to go wrong
