Here is a pic of a 500 gr woodleigh 50-110 bullet that has penetrated a foot and a half of meat and bone.

Good lord! Thats a lot of 308 bullet! I would also be interested in knowing about the impact velocity of those and the distance. There is still a LOT of slug left there and I would gamble that it wasnt a very far shot.

Reminds me of the old school Barnes bullets. Fun stuff to check out but I personally wouldnt take them afield, Id reach for my Whelen first for that sort of thing.

Woodleigh quotes velocities obtained in their rifle (barrel length presumably 24") between 2200 - 2400fps. At 1.428" length, the standard 10" twist for the '06 ought to stabilize them. I would like to try these in a 300 ultra. Should go 2800+ . That ought to smack a bear pretty good.

Just watch (be mindful of) the velocity. Woodleigh's recommended impact velocity is 1900-2400 fps. See pic.

A .30-06 should get them moving in the 2,300'/sec range and be the cat's meow for close shooting of very large game such as moose. Ranges should be a bit better than a 30-30.....say 200 yards give or take.

That said I'd suspect there won't be a lot of them sold as most folks wanting that heavy a pill will opt for larger diameter bores. Unfortunately I see this as the answer to a question that hasn't been asked.

I believe these bullets will be standard in my .300 H&H

Excellent bullets for Aussie Smabar hunters many of whom use 30/06's or .30 cal mags of some sort.

And ... pushing them above their recommended impact velocity results in over-expansion and slightly limited penetration. But they dont fragment. For large soft-skinned beasties from a 30magnum, that's not necessarily a bad thing! When I spoke to Geoff about them he mentioned they were tested on medium game and expanded well from a 30/06. Recovering a projectile from medium game was very challenging though

With rifle pictured, just over 2300 using H4831sc.

Huntingtons (530-534-1212) has them in stock, but not on their web site yet.

Good looking pre-64. I would love to know about the performance on game when you all give them a try.

I got a box from a fellow AR member a wk or so back and wanted me to try them on Interior Grizz in a few wks. I loaded them up with some N560 and 71 grns. for my .30-338 and they shoot wonderfully-just have not run my chrono with them yet. But yes they are a very picturesque bullet in the 338 case.

for buffulo and likes one cannot get a better proj than the barnes 200 gn tsx proj at 2650...it penetrates

M98, I agree that the Barnes is a true performer but when you have the likes of a 240 grain pill something has got to give way. In Kaltag the Esamailka's have already gone out to guide for bear. Hunting is an old way and with these new bullets their stirs up an old fire. This FN98 I have rebuilt if you will is ready from stock to bedding to metal work from Timan and a new scope and bullets from a fine AR hunter/guide. If all works out and I am sure it will M 98 I will pm you a note and a pic of this Aussie made bullets success. Good day.

i would be intrested in the results....im off to kampchatka for the brown bears in september, and have decided to stick with the 200 gn partitions, for thesole reason that bear hides are not thick or tough ....to me they are more like tissiue paper, so im not all that confidantwith the tsx on bears, with the 200 gn nosler at 2700 plus , i think that will do me fine
what stock are you getting put on the 98...a synthetic or wood...im getting a mcmillan hunters edge stock ....a flat top and stuart is doing all the inletting,on top of that i managed to get a couple of obermyer barrels ....so with stuarts two 06 M 98 actions which he will have done for me at the end of may early june, I SHOULD HAVE A MATCHING PAIR OF SHOOTERS!

Have used their 220 grs in my .300 wildcat, since the Barnes Original 250 grs was discontinued. I really liked theese long cigars at 2600 Vo.
