Hi guys! I have a M1908 Mannlicher-Schoenauer in the original 8x56 M/S. I shoot it open sights. It has what I'm guessing is an opening to mount a long range tang style sight, but I'm wondering if anyone can advise me what I should be looking for to complete the rifle? I was thinking a Lyman of some type? The hole is unthreaded and appears to be a slick metal shaft that goes all the way into the interior buttstock compartment. FYI - The bridge/receiver area appears original and it is untapped. I'm thinking this was not original to the rifle, as others I've seen do not have a sight mounted like this. Pics can be found here. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmSUKm85 Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! "Brevity is the sole of wit." - Rudyard Kipling.

That's too far back for a sight, my guess is that it's for an add on cheekpiece.

Thought about that. All the adjustable cheek pieces I've seen had two hoes in the stock. "Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." Mark Twain
