M1908 Mannlicher/Schoenauer sight question
Hi guys! I have a M1908 Mannlicher-Schoenauer in the original 8x56 M/S. I shoot it open sights.

It has what I'm guessing is an opening to mount a long range tang style sight, but I'm wondering if anyone can advise me what I should be looking for to complete the rifle? I was thinking a Lyman of some type?

The hole is unthreaded and appears to be a slick metal shaft that goes all the way into the interior buttstock compartment.

FYI - The bridge/receiver area appears original and it is untapped. I'm thinking this was not original to the rifle, as others I've seen do not have a sight mounted like this.

Pics can be found here.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Go to nitroexpress.com

They have a Mannlicher forum with some very well informed MS experts.
Good luck

That's too far back for a sight, my guess is that it's for an add on cheekpiece.

Thought about that. All the adjustable cheek pieces I've seen had two hoes in the stock.

Thanks - I had not considered that...
