Sure, you could have the stock refinished and still be under it's value.

Id say absolutly and I wouldn't even bother to refinish the stock, just hunt with it..FN or Mauser, hard to beat...Until recently anything with Browning on it was as good as it gets..John Browning was a brilliant man that left a legacy, like no other..

Take it out of the stock first to inspect the condition of the metal. Many Browning Safaris suffered from wood which was cured by burying it in salt; the salt-saturated wood was very corrosive and could badly rust the metal exposed to it.

most of the salt wood browning center fire rifles were sako actions, but I would take the action out of the stock anyway.

All you have to do is remove the butt plate screws, will tell you all you need to know.

or one of the swivels!! if fact you can usually see sighns of salt wood on an old gun peeking out around the wood to metal line.
