Would a Browning Safari FN mauser in 30--06 with decent blueing and metal in a rough lookinh stock be worth $550.oo

BiebsSure, you could have the stock refinished and still be under it's value.

Jim KobeI would have to agree with what Biebs said, great action alone as long as it wasn't the less desirable Sako

AtkinsonId say absolutly and I wouldn't even bother to refinish the stock, just hunt with it..FN or Mauser, hard to beat...Until recently anything with Browning on it was as good as it gets..John Browning was a brilliant man that left a legacy, like no other..

StonecreekTake it out of the stock first to inspect the condition of the metal. Many Browning Safaris suffered from wood which was cured by burying it in salt; the salt-saturated wood was very corrosive and could badly rust the metal exposed to it.

Mike Raymost of the salt wood browning center fire rifles were sako actions, but I would take the action out of the stock anyway.

Atkinsonor one of the swivels!! if fact you can usually see sighns of salt wood on an old gun peeking out around the wood to metal line.
