I had a hard time deciding what to put on my "being assembled as we speak" .338. Some say 26", some say 20". Some say 24" some say 22". I couldn't decide so I compromised at 23". I don't think an inch or so either way makes a huge ballistic difference, but it could affect the balance, depending on the contour.

I'd go with a 23" or 24" barrel. My current .338 Win. Mag. has a 24" Kreiger barrel, and wouldn't have it any other length.
