I picked up a M-70, 1963 manufacture, .30-06 Featherweight and would like to see what it is actually worth. Just let me know what info you need on it and I'll get back with you. I think I got a pretty good deal on this rifle but my curiosity is killing me!

If it's in new condition in the box that's of interest to collectors. If it's rusty then the action is still valuable so tell us what it looks like? Does it have a plastic butt plate? Any modifications?

Don,

I would say that it has about 98% of it's bluing. There is an aftermarket (Pachmayer) recoil pad install...although not very well installed. The wood has minor ding/scratches. It also has an old, but suprisingly clear, Weaver K6 scope mounted in Weaver rings and bases. It does not appear to have been used or shot much.

I think I did pretty good on it....paid $450 [Big Grin]

Yes, $450 was a very good deal. A late model featherweight '06 like you described in 98% condition or so should sell for about $675, even with the pad which diminishes the value somewhat. (My grandfather bought me an '06 featherweight in the late 50's. I've taken lots of deer with it. I'll probably be buried with it.)

Sounds like a good deal. A prominent rifle maker in western Washington will give $450 cash on the barrelhead for any pre-64 M-70 with a standard bolt face that comes in the door, even if it's a barreled action. Okie John.

Actions alone generally bring about $450 assuming they haven't been altered (extra holes, bolt alterations, etc.)
