One hardly hears of these in the 'literature' and I have never seen one, while the WSM's are quite common? Dead in the water? The RUM's seems to have a bit of a following but even the most hype mongering gun rags seem to be mum on the SAUMS? (the 700 BDL, CDL, Sendero and MTN are not so chambered, only the Mod 7 with a 22" barrel)

I purchased a 300SAUM in a sendero before they quit chambering it in the SAUMs. It is very accurate and gives descent speed. I don't try and Max it out at all and I'm easily pushing 168s alittle over 3000. My main gripe w/ the 700 SAs is the long throats, you can't even get close to the lands w/ many bullets due to the 2.825 clip length. I find the round to be inbetween the 30-06 and 300WSM in performance. I don't believe I would buy one in a Model 7 by personal preference nor would I buy one if I weren't a handloader as Remington is about the only ammo maker producing factory ammo for the SAUMs and it's quite scarce to find locally. W/ a set of Forester dies and a pile of brass, she'll dance. Good Luck Reloader

IMO both Winchester and Remington vastly overestimated our love for short action rifles. The WSMs, WSSMs, and SAUMs all came out at about the same time and it appears that possibly the WSMs might hang on a bit. I'd agree.....dead in the water. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I guess I'm still treading water! I have a model 7 in 7mmRSAUM. It is my "go to" gun for mule deer, bighorn sheep, and black bear. I used to shoot 160 gr Partitions out of it, but know I have switched to 160 gr Accubonds. It is true that there is a lack of loaded ammo for it, Remington loads it (of course) and so does the Nosler shop in Bend, OR. You can purchase loaded ammo off the internet off of their "Nosler Custom Ammunition." It is a wonderfully accurate rifle, that has the same ballistics of a 7mmRem mag, but in a much handier and lighter package. It doesn't seem to be very popular though. I think it should be a handloaders caliber. Kind of sounds like another Remington caliber, 8mm Rem mag doesn't it. I love mine!

kayaker I don't really see them as having much of an advantage over a .284 Winchester and they take a back seat to the 7MM Remington. Their brass is more expensive and harder to come by. I see no reason for them to last much longer.

One reason the 7mm suam should stick around is for the hunters who like to carry a model seven. Neither of your cartridges are chambered in that rifle.

If remington had chambered them in more of their line up they may have been more popular. A great idea but remington just didn't get behind them ?????

I dont believe the SAUMS were ever intended for everybody or to take over established cartridges, You also wont see too many folk driving this 600hp ShortMagnum either. http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/kleemann_slk55ks8.asp Like the Rem,It also only holds two in the box, but I am sure most of us could live with that.
