I just bought a Rem. CDL in 7mm Rem. and was wondering if I can get it reamed into an STW. I know it can be done, but the standard rate of twist for the Rem is 1-10, and the STW is 1-12, how would this affect the bullet travel? Would it be worth it?

Don't let the twist rate stop you....you'll be fine.

I have done it as well. And unlike a RUM conversion, you won't have to worry about feed rails.

Actually most 7mmstw rifles have a 1 in 9-1/2" or 1 in 10" twist. My own 7mmstw rifles have a 1 in 10" twist which works fine.I would be more concerned with the barrel length. The 7mmstw really needs a 26" barrel to take best advantage of the larger case capacity.

cmfic1,
I have a Rem Sendero that started out as 7mm Rem Mag and was rechambered to 7mm STW improved (blown out with a 40 degree shoulder). I don't reload so I have been shooting regular 7mm STW ammo and saving the fire-formed brass. The rifle came with dies, so whenever I decide to reload I will have brass. It shoots very well, so I see you having no problems with your conversion.

Since your rifle has a 26" barrel, you should be good to go.Factory 7mmstw loads are pathetic but you will make fair gains over the 7mmremmag if you handload.

Ya I figured that out about the factory loads. And yes I do reload. While on the topic, could I use 7 RUM brass, and form it into 7 Dakota?
